No idea what to do

Ok so last March 1st I was 265 lbs, I went on about a 45 day fast and went from 265 to 238. Since then I haven't seen anymore results no matter what I eat. I dunno if I should go on another fast or not. lately Ive been eating about 1000 calories a day, Im 5'10 238 as of right now. I weight train 3-6 days a week. Any help is appreciated.

what do you mean by "45 day fast"? How old are you? Have you taken your measurements? Some people don't realize that even though their weight might not be moving as much as they want. Their dimensions are changing positively.

During the 45 day fast I ate around 400 calories a day if not less and weight trained with a small amount of cardio. I'm 18. I don't have any of my measurements. I have a 40 jean size.

fasting isn't very healthy or productive in the long term. You should try eating normally for two weeks to reset your system, while increasing your cardio and continuing to lift. Then after the two weeks continue to slowly increase your cardio, while going on a 2000 calorie diet. If 2000 diet doesn't seem to work after a week or two try 1500 calories. If that doesn't work I recommend you go to the doctor. You might have a medical condition which is hindering your weight loss. Like a thyroid problem or something. We all plateau differently, but fasting can really throw a wrench into our metabolism while in starvation mode.

Oh, about your measurements. I asked because even though your weight might not be dropping. Your shape can still change positively and lets face it. Ultimately, you care about how you look and feel, not what the scale says.

So what you've done by eating so little food is slow your metabolism down to the point that you can't lose weight. At this point, when you start eating real food again, you're going to gain weight. There's no way you can't .. your metabolism is being damaged and you're probably losing lean muscle at a huge rate, and your whole body needs time to recover.

At your weight, you should be eating around 2500 calories (of healthy food) to lose weight at a safe rate.

First thing you need to do is start eating. Real food, not junk.

From there, you can GRADUALLY begin lowering calories again until you're losing an average of 2-3 lbs a week. At your weight, that's a safe and sustainable rate of loss.

So If I begin eating 2500 calories a day Wont I gain weight back again because my metabolism is so slow and if I do begin to eat 2500 calories daily how long should I expect before my metabolism is back to normal. I Dont have any noticeable muscle mass loss that I can see. My muscles seem more toned then they used to be but not necessarily bigger. and I can lift more that I used to. thx for your help

Honestly I can't really answer those questions for you. Everyone is different and I can't know what kind of damage you've already done to your metabolism. You ARE losing muscle mass ... whether you can see it or not. There's no way you *can't* have lost muscle mass eating only 400 calories for 45 days or more.

But you HAVE to start being healthy again or your going to permanently damage your body ... possibly beyond repair.

Right now stop focusing on weight loss and just start eating healthy food in healthy amounts. Give it at least 6-8 weeks for your body to begin to stabilize again. Keep exercising, and keep paying attention to your calories, but just don't even worry about the scale until you've become healthy again.

Seriously ... no joking around here. You HAVE to eat real food.

Is it possible to gain as much muscle in weight as your losing in fat on a 1000-1500 calorie diet with a lot of protein? Thanks again for you help.

While gaining muscle is possible when you are on a caloric deficit, it is not likely unless you have a specific exercise schedule and diet- and it is very UNLIKELY it will completely offset your weight loss.

Please listen to Kara's advice, you really need to focus on health at this point - not weight loss. Eventually everything will even out and you will begin to lose again, just give it time.

No. Plain and simple ... no. It is not.

I'll find you medical references if you want ... I've read them in the past and have them bookmarked somewhere. But you CANNOT gain muscle in a calorie deficit unless you are already significantly overweight to begin with. Or unless you are extremely motivated ... with a very specific exercise and diet schedule.

From what I recall from my reading, the average person will gain about 2% of their bodyweight in muscle over a 6 week period *if* they aren't also in a calorie deficit. Unless you're a teenager and have the natural predisposition to gain muscle, or you're taking steroids, gaining more than 20-25 lbs of muscle in a year is extremely difficult under *normal* circumstances.

While dieting ... it's practically impossible.

Ok I ate 1900 calories today It seemed like I was eating so much. I Really do not want to gain back all the weight that I lost.

heya, i noticed your new and just wanted to ask if you'd read the stickies in the forum? they have alot of insight in regards to nutrition, plus there's also a helpful calorie counter here

i think reading the stickies might help you see the benefits as to why your body needs way more than 1000cals per day especially if your exercising. all the best xoxo
