No fat on stomack, but it still sticks out

I have hardly any fat on my stomack but it still sticks out. How can i make it so that the stomack is completly flat?

Can you please be more specific? Is it fleshy? Is it loose? Maybe it's the muscle making it bulge out? A common mistake is to deny the amount of fat that one actually has, due to some factors that might indicate "low-fat" like ribs poking out or ish like that.

Be sure to suck in your stomach when you do ab workouts. Drink lots of water. And a good colon cleansing is always beneficial - you can get them at your local health food store.

A good colon cleansing.... if that's as much fun as it sounds I'd avoid it completely :p

But in all seriousness, you need to provide more information, a picture of the area in concern might help clear this up as well.

I will get a picture as soon as possible. My body fat was measured last at 14%. I doubt it is indegestion. I have never had a colon cleanse so i'll look into that, but i'll get that pic in soon.

I suggested the colon cleanse because my friend had this same problem. She exercised and you could feel her ab muscles when she flexed, but she had a pot belly. If your colon is full, it has to push out, making your stomach appear big. Many people you see with large bellies but small legs could have this same problem, only much worse. Water Colonics works, but I used FirstCleanse found at Vitamin World, you take 4 pills a day for two weeks. You may have minor headaches the first couple of days (I did), but after that you just feel wonderful.

Also, pilates did wonders for my own stomach, which has never been big - it just sometimes wanted to bulge out a little. Now it's flat as a board!

To others reading this post: please don't criticize something you don't know anything about. If you've tried this and didn't find it beneficial, that is one thing. But to guide someone against something that could help them is not appreciated. No more sarcastic knocks to the colon cleanse, please.

This is a complete load of crap (pardon the pun). Colon cleansing is just another ridiculous fad that probably has more health risks involved than actual benefits. You'd like me to leave my sarcasm out of this...? No problem. Why don't you have a talk with a fitness professional (or even a real doctor, not just some quack) to find out if they think that colonics is the answer to excess fat around your midsection. I'll save you the time: It isn't. The cause for excess fat being stored around your waist and belly has much more to do with your genetic makeup than the amount of excess fecal material in your intestines. Keep exercising and burning fat and eventually you will lose the fat around your stomach as well. You cannot spot-reduce areas of your body despite what anyone else tells you, your body is going to lose fat where it is genetically designed to and as you burn more fat you will notice it being used from various parts of your body. Different people's bodies utilize fat stores from different areas first, there isn't a whole lot you can do about it. Just keep up the good work and a healthy diet and you'll notice the differences you want.

Believe it or not, your body (including your colon) is more than capable of sustaining itself and keeping itself in working order. Do yourself a favor and eat a little bit more fiber and you'll accomplish the exact same "cleansing" (with less risk) and save yourself a bunch of money at the same time. The following linked article relates to colon cleansing for cancer prevention (and treatment) but does a decent job of explaining a few of the risks. Beyond this the supplements that you are buying off the shelves to "clean you out" are probably putting more garbage into your digestive system than they are taking out, and you can bet that any negative bi-product that does get flushed out was put there as part of those wonderful pills you are taking.

Good luck.

i must say that i would only recommend a colon cleanse if there was a medical reason for it - say parasites from that wonderful vacation that i've never taken! that sort of thing can remove a lot of the good bacteria that your body needs to digest food and fight off infection etc. if you decided to go with a colon cleanse it should be done with a doctors supervision or even a very good knowledgable herbologist. but you will be hard pressed to find any doctor to recommend this sort of thing. don't mess with you internal working by throwing back some stuff that you've no idea what it is doing to you. vitamins etc. are one thing- they help promote health but cleansing your body?? it isn't dirty unless your eating dirt and worms.(althought they say you eat a pound of dirt by age 5 or something like that??) excercise and diet are key. pilates is good core training it does help become more aware of your core so you can train it more effectively. it is helpful. just my opinion though- you all can tell me to shut up if you want. oh yeah i do know a whole lot about the body and the whole internal workings of it so don't get all heated up about it kay!! :)

ps i agree with you azathoth it has become a fad, but there are some benifits but only if doctor recommended- enema anyone. leave it to the pros to decide what needs cleaning inside your bod.

First of all, the original poster said she did not have any excess fat on her stomach, just that it stuck out, which was the same as my friend was is EXTREMELY in shape, but always had a gut... I wasn't talking about FAT LOSS... I don't know why you're so hostile and mean, azathoth, but i don't appreciate it being directed at me.

Taking more fiber is an excellent way to go and a great way to cleanse your colon! Some people (especially those who have eaten healthy, unprocessed foods most of their life) probably don't have intestinal problems. But the majority of people do not get nearly enough fiber in their diet.

My mother used to weigh 235 pounds at 5'8" (all from food, no thyroid problems) and would have a small bowel movement maybe twice a month. This is not normal. All the food she ate had to go somewhere! It was sitting in her colon! Recently (at 150 pounds) the doctor found yeast in her TOE - weird I know. He prescribed her some medicine to kill the yeast, but he also told her that she needed to clean out her colon and cut out all simple sugars for 2 weeks to kill all the yeast inside her. Now she has a bowel movement TWO OR THREE TIMES A DAY! (She originally did the colonics with the water, then did something similar to the FirstCleanse I mentioned earlier. Now she takes Colon Cleanse, which is simply fiber capsules.) SHE ALSO TOOK PROBIOTICS TO REPLACE THE GOOD BACTERIA LOST DURING THE CLEANSE!!! It is very dangerous to do too much cleansing, and I would NOT recommend this much to anyone else, but my mother was an extreme case and needed it.

My boyfriend's mother has Diverticulitis () where she had so much stress inside her intestines that it formed "pouches" where the organ pushed through the lining. These "pouches" now become infected frequently, despite her taking medication, and she will have to have surgery to correct this.

I'm not trying to scare anybody, but if you are not having regular bowel movements, at the very least take more fiber. Most people KNOW their colon isn't healthy - that's why there is such a huge market for laxatives, gas-x, and bloating relief! As the Greeks and Romans said, "Death begins in the colon!" ;)

I will correct my previous post only to say that yes, I agree 100% that if prescribed by a doctor with good reason to expect some biological benefit a colon cleanse may be necessary for some individuals. I appreciate the various cases you described where such measures may have been necessary, but you do seem to be describing very extreme cases which seem to have little if nothing to do with what saeed was describing.

You are also correct, she mentions having "hardly any fat" on her stomach, but it still sticks out. I would say it's a pretty safe bet (again, as I stated before, not much can be specifically said without seeing a picture of the affected area) that the cause of this is either the fat that is left on her stomach (however small of an amount she believes that to be), or a lack of toning.

My suggestions relate to the potential need for better diet and exercise (including increased fiber, which is a good idea for most people because as you say, the majority of people do not get nearly enough fiber in their diet). I apologize if I came down a little harsh in my post, but I think it's poor and particularly dangerous advice to tell someone immediately that the answer to a little excess skin, fat, or a merely slightly untoned area of their midsection is to go out and have their colon cleansed. If there was anything about her description that I thought merited such a diagnosis I would have left it alone, but as I am not a doctor, and I assume you are not a doctor, and since there we no extreme symptoms described that merited any advice about even going to see a doctor, my suggestion still stands that without knowing anything about the situation, a colon cleanse is just poor advice.

My policy is that people should make healthy decisions about diet and exercise (including proper workouts to tone certain areas) unless there are signals that merit other courses of action being needed. I'm not trying to start a big argument, and again I apologize for coming on harshly, but you seem to be taking this topic in a direction of extremely unusual disorders simply to defend colon cleansing, which I will grant you has merit in very specific situations. I want to stress once again that this situation does not seem extreme or unusual, and therefore I felt the advice you were giving was not exactly appropriate.

Have you tried doing stomach vacuums? (the exercise not the operation).

I know 2 people that have had a similar problem and the stomach vacuum helped them a bunch.

Google, how to do them...very easy.

I have exessive lordosis...i think that is to blam in part for my stomack sticking out. Does anyone know how to correct this postural imbalance? I have 2 to 3 bowel movements a day so i am not sure if a colon cleans is what i need but i am going to consider it, i'll just find out a littlemore about and its side effects. I am starting to think that it is the mostly the excessive lordosis.
