I`ll be getting the xbox kinnect system in the next week or so and i`m really looking forward to getting The Biggest Loser game for it, i was just wondering if anyone has played this game on the wii and lost weight or has anyone played a fitness game on the wii and lost any weight?

Along with other things like P90X, HIIT, boxing and walking I've been playing Wii Active.

I like it.
I've lost 42 pounds so far. I can't say how much of that is from the wii itself but I can say that I've been on the wii longer than any other workout and I was losing weight with just the wii alone.

Wii fitness games I didn't like were Daisy Fuentes, Wii Sports (I'm just not a sporty person. I was cool though) and Golds Gym.
I was ok with My Fitness Coach.

Not played either but if it gets your up off your butt in front of the TV jumping about can only be an improvement on sitting with a controller!?

I use Wii Fit to track my weight loss. I also play Wii Sports all the time on nights that I don't feel like doing a "real" workout. It's better than just sitting and it keeps me from snacking. I really enjoy it as a suppliment to my weight loss.

Re: Using Kinnect/ Wii for weight loss

I think the Kinnect would serve people better. You can cheat with the Wii. For example on the Wii running games, all you have to do is pump your arms and you're "moving". The Kinnect, however, reads your entire body movement and if you don't pump your legs- your icon doesn't move. The Kinnect has some killer games for working out. One is "Fighters Uncaged". While this is a fighter game, you are essentially doing a kickboxing class in your living room! I was more expired after doing 5 minutes of this game than 30 minutes on a treadmill. Other games are the Kinnect sports and Dance Central. Currently I am 230lbs at 5'9. I played football for six years and stayed in ok shape during those years. Since I'm not playing anymore, I am not conditioning anymore. Well, the Kinnect is going to change that. Besides my normal gym routine (30mins cardio/ 60mins of weights 4x a week), I'm going to hit the Kinnect every day for at least 60mins. The cool thing is I can play Kinnect with my kids and wife. We're getting a work out and playing a game at the same time. In addition, I am going to restrict myself to 1500 calories a day. No more soda!!!

I'd be really interested in hearing what people think of the fitness value of this type of exercise. From what I understand (which is very little) they do not include any form of weight/resistance training and therefore must largely be cardio work outs.

So, is the Wii, in effect, a form of aerobics?

And if that is true, what is the benefit of the Wii over an aerobics DVD?

Well I can't speak for wii fit but as for games like DDR, I have so much fun and work up a good sweat. Unlike a pure aerobics DVD, it doesnt feel like a routine. I guess games are much more entertaining, interactive and engaging. I do it because I really want too :)

The benefit? Unlike an exercise DVD, you'll actually WANT to use the Wii to get fit.

Instead of lame, boring instruction on what to do and how to work out, the Wii gives you games to play. And, when you're playing the games, some of them are straight up work outs, but most of them are cute little fun games that make you forget that you're even working out.

I'm a 29 year old male and I was always skeptical about the Wii, especially the Wii Fit. But, that was only until I actually used it. Once I used it, I was like, "Oh my God...this is FUN!!!" Then I started playing it and using the Wii Fit every once in a while. And, the more you play it, the more you realize how much of a workout you are getting, even when you are playing games that aren't even exercise based. Just playing games like Mario Party 8 or Wii Bowling gives you a pretty good workout. You get up and you move around, which is more than what you would do while playing a computer game. And, the games are surprisingly fun and addictive, which makes the Wii a great choice in my opinion.

I enjoy the Wii fit, I just got one, my wife loves it and so far I like it as well. It's not gonna give you the workout that an hour on the treadmill is, but, it is a very welcome change of pace that fools you into thinking you're not working out.

If you have one of the 3 gaming consoles look into EA Sports Active2. It can provide a interactive workout that DVDs just can't.

Xbox360 WILL need Kinect (i know, got it.. whipped my ass it did!) (this will add 150 to the cost if you have a 360 without Kinect)

WII uses the WiiMotes in conjunction with supplied motion sensors in leg/arm straps.

PS3 uses motion sensors in arm/leg sensors.

2 comes with a HRM that connects to the console, and the game will calculate your calories burned based on age/weight/heart rate. same as a Polar chestband HRM rig will. Its a little expensive at 100 bucks normal price. But Amazon has it for 49.99 right now. I picked it up at target for 59 last week. I like it so far. picked up some 5lbs ankle weight straps to use with it now. the game also provides a medium weight resistance band. You can configure it to use Free Weights if you want to do so. It has 3 intensity settings for exercising Easy, Medium, Hard.

Kinect also comes with Kinect Adventures. It in itself can give you a workout. Rallyball is nuts at times. you hit a ball down field to try and take out targets, you have to aim to hit them, light to hard force depending on how fast you want it to go, the ball will split into multiples and you can hit them back down field if you manage to do so! sending one down, having 4 come back because it hit the multipleier target is insane.. send 2 of them back and hit more multiplers or even the target (which sends OTHER extra balls back..) it can get wild.

We got the Kinect for Christmas and love it. I was wearing my polar HRM and doing dance central the other night and my max hr was 173, and I stayed in my fat burning zone for most of the time I was playing. If I would have gone for a whole hour I would have definatly got a gym quality aerobic workout.

I bought the EA Sports Active 2 for PS3 on the weekend.

I love it. I was primarily running on my treadmill and using resistance bands prior.

Now EA has me doing a full body workout and having fun at the same time.

Each day so far (3) I get different exercises. Usually 25-30 exercises and at least 5-10 are new to me each time.

Absolutely love my Nintendo Wii! I don't always realize how much progress is being made because it happens slowly but looking back at the graph of weightloss is really inspiring and I love Wii Shape Boxing and just bought Wii Shape Boxing 2!
