Night time cravings

Hi!

I have been tracking all my food for the day using Fit Day and maintaining a low level of calories and carbs, doing all I feel I'm supposed to during the day, but when it gets to about 9 or 10 at night I get really hungry- so when people in the dorms want to order a pizza or make chips and dip I eat with them, basically killing everything I had done during that day. I know eating a larger meal for breakfast or lunch will help make dinner a small meal, but does anyone have any tips for keeping night-time cravings down or techniques to develop some will power against snacking at night?

Thanks!

I'd say take in more calories during the day. Chances are your intake is too low so your body demands the calories it needs at night.

Yes, tons of foods are fine at night. in fact, you're probably not eating enough later in teh day, hence the cravings.

what time of day do you workout? you should only eat carbs around your workout period. the rest of the day you should stick to protein, healthy fats, and veggies.

so assuming you work out earlier in the day, at 9pm you could have some cottage cheese and some veggies, or a small handful of almonds. a slightly smaller than normal meal, full of slower digesting protein and no sugar/starch carbs.

I am not sure if you are like me but this is my experience. I 'use' to have this problem when I would try to diet (and from time to time do). Work out hard and it is so easy to eat right morning, noon, and evening and then the night comes and your still a lil' hungry, everyone else is eating it... bam, all the extra calories I avoided during the day would come back in doublefold. I guess, just make sure you have healthy snacks around and don't give in. Everyone else is talking like changing your diet will get rid of this craving and for me it doesn't - not saying you shouldn't make sure you have a well balanced diet with proper amount of calories. It is for me anyway more of a mental thing, I was so used to eating at that time and a little cheat didn't hurt. The number one way to over ride it is will power. The first three times, saying no to the pizza is going to be hard even with diet adjustments. Just focus on saying no to the one meal and don't think, "oh god I will never have pizza again"... which always builds up pressure of keeping your diet and turns into, "just this last time" every time. After about week or so of healthy snacking at night, you won't be as used to the pizza/chips and it will be easier to refuse.

Hope that helps

Yeah camel, I definitely have the same problem as you! I seem to have that lack of will power to keep from eating that way and saying 'no' to food (like pizza) when everyone else around me is eating. Plus, it doesn't help that my boyfriend is tall and skinny with an unbelievable metabolism, so he eats all the time! Thanks for the input, I'll try your suggestions! (and sorry it took so long to read it.. I didn't realize anyone posted back since the last time and I forgot to check it!!)

And malkore, I used to work out around 2:00 when I was at school, but now that I'm home for the summer I work out around 5:00. So would that mean I should eat carbs with dinner afterward and try to avoid them during the rest of my day, or should I eat them before as well? Thanks!
