Well I've started a diet and excercise regime, i just dont know if i'm going about it right. I am a 290# 35year old male. I have cut my caloric intake to about 2245 a day (which i keep a diary of), as well as exercising at least 30 minutes a day or around 250 calories burnt. According to my daily log i am 4235 calories below my weekly budget, (which takes in account exercise) is that good or bad? Just finished my first week, I feel good but I did not lose the 1 pound i was looking for. I have a million questions but really I'm just looking for some guidance. Thanks

Im new to this site I just joined today. I have lost 200 pounds in 10 months which most people will say is not healthy but weighing 430 pounds is not healthy either. What kind of excercising are you doing and what kinds of food are you eating on your diet. For example when I first started I could barely get off the couch, it was horrible. I started walking on my treadmill all I could do was about 25 minutes at 2.0 mph at an incline of 5 and barely made it for 25 minutes. Now I am able to do 4.5 mph and every couple minutes increase to 6.0 mph at 12 incline for 50 minutes and then do 5 minutes of cool down. Obviously it took lots of hard work and I excercised 6 days a week no exceptions. On my diet I eat 1500 calories a day and take Acai Berry and also flax seed oil. It can be done dont get frustrated or discouraged. You should only weigh yourself once a week at most, since the body fluctuates a lot from day to day. I am no expert I did it on my own and learned on the way how to do things that worked for me. I will be glad to give any advice or support you need. By the way I am 40 and a male. If you have any questions I would be glad to answer them.

Sorry, but acai berry won't help you one bit to lose weight. It will help you with antioxidants but don't fall for the buzz ok? Many of the drinks that have it is full of sugar and calories and there actually has been no medical proof of the goodness of acai berry outside antioxidants. You don't need some fancy new megafood..you just need common sense.

You and I are around the same age (though you are lower than me in weight). I can tell you yes, you are on the right path. I would want to look at your food diary if at your weight and doing what you said you didn't lose 1 pound. My first question would be are you being 100% honest with your food diary? Sometimes we forget to add the little things and those add up. We also sometimes underestimate just how many calories are in food or how big the food is. If you are willing, I'd like to have you put your weekly food log so we can help you.

Above all, don't give up. We are in this journey together. We will help you.

Im not taking the Acai Berry to lose weight Im taking it as an anti oxidant only. I have lost my 200 pounds the old fashioned way very hard work and dedication.

Thats allright didnt want to come off the wrong way. Im not into fads Im just trying to do things the healthy way. There are no quick fixes or magic pills. Thank you for your input. Its nice to have support and a forum to talk on

Welcome and congrats in completing your 1st week! :)

What you have up there is looking pretty good, but I question of how many times your are eating per day....If you want the metabolism to burn like fire, you need to eat at least 5 to 6 times a day, while still keeping a caloric deficit. If weren't doing this before, try it this week and let us know of your results.....

:eh: :beerchug:

Thanks for the support everyone. As far as my diet and diary, I am being fully honest with what I'm writing down. I check everything I eat and if I dont know the exact count I overestimate, (my ipod works great as my diary, lots of apps to help). I eat 5 to 6 times a day sometimes more with lite snacking. I eat NO fast food, NO soda's (other than red bull fat free), and I do not drink coffee. My exercise, I'm a little embarrassed to say, is mainly on the Wii. I have multiple games (Active, Fit, etc..) and am using there programs, and I feel I get a good work out. I hope to start jogging soon, just a little worried about my bad knee. I use the softwares calorie counter for my diary, (not sure how accurate so I underestimate). I also walk 2 mile 3/week, and working in the construction field burns calories as well. My weight goal is 200, which I haven't been since I was 19. One other thing I worry about is turning to much fat into muscle and bulking up, as I use to be a weight lifter and have had this problem in the past.

Thanks everyone

Your weight can vary enough from day to day to mask a 1 lb loss. You could wait another week or two to see what happens, or you could cut the calories a bit more. I was eating around 1600 or 1700 calories, and losing around 3 lb a week when I first started my diet. It's not that hard to do, and I think it's safe enough when you are that much overweight.
