Hi, everyone! First, i just want to offer my sincere appreciation for having a place like this to turn to. I can definitely use some help.

I don't want to give you the whole life story or bore you guys too much, so i guess i'll get right to it! I'm tired of the way i am. I'm tired of being sore all the time, tired of getting winded from just jogging up the stairs to bed, tired of sucking in my gut, tired of busting buttons on my pants, and tired of looking in the mirror and not seeing a body, but something more akin to a bulging sack of oatmeal.

Unfortunately, the trouble is that this isn't exactly the first time it's crossed my mind! I'm now 21 years old, 250lbs, with countless false starts and failed attempts behind me. In January, i decided (once again) that this would be the year i finally make some changes. I still hold to that, but the problem is i'm still a little confused as to the whole process. Hopefully, with your help, i can finally stick with this and see it all the way through!

Thanks once again, very much, and i look forward to healthier days.

welcome aboard Trumpeter,

You'll find many who have the same goals as you here. Have a look around and dont be shy to ask.

Do you play the trumpet? :D

Thanks, it's great to be aboard! I'm glad i found this place when i did.

Haha, oh no! I'm actually not very musically inclined at all. :D

welcome! the next step is setting goals, and planning to get there. a training journal really helps i reccomend starting one. do you have a plan yet?

Hi...welcome...I find that reading others diarys helps me alot, I can see that they can do it and how. in turn I find inspiration and information as well!
Best of luck! You can do this...failed attempts are in the past and everyday is a new day!:)

Thanks!

As for goals, my main goal is to get down to 180lbs by this time next year (really springing more for February 08, but i'm giving myself that full 365 to get it done). After that, i suppose i'll sort of see if i'm happy where i am and decide what to do from there! Short time wise, i'd like to see if i can slim down about 30 or so lbs by the end of July.

The plan is where the trouble starts, unfortunately. As i mentioned in the first post, i'm really quite confused when it comes to...well, all aspects of this whole weight loss thing! From counting calories in food to how many i can lose doing this or that activity, what works best or what i shouldn't do, how not to overexert myself, etc...it's all sort of disheartening! That being said, i haven't been lax; since February or so, i've completely cut out sodas and junk foods from my diet, replacing them with water and fruits respectively. I try to manage at least an hour a day on the exercise bike some time in the morning/early afternoon and i've started eating 3-5 small meal a day as opposed to the previous one or two huge meals, one of which would be in the late evening.

Unfortunately, this past week i've sort of slipped and found myself splurging on some fast food or junky snacks. That's one of the reasons i stopped by here; i don't want this attempt to end like all the others!

It's great to be here! And i completely agree. Since i've been here, i've found myself reading through as many of those diaries and stories as i've can. It helps me to understand that i can definitely do this!

the biggest thing that has worked in my favor is calorie tracking, but theres many was to do it. i decided to take it seriously. I bought a scale to make it easy to be precise and log in every piece of food that goes into my body. i use fitday to keep track. You enter your stats and goal and it will give you a starting point as far as how much you should restrict calories. mine has been right on, no need to adjust.

so far so good.

I agree 100% on the calorie tracking...i count what I eat and my activities
the first step for me was complete honesty...this week I counted every calorie and lost 10 pounds with 3 hrs of exercise a day and around 1200 calories of organic healthy foods...plus I quit drinking soda...they have been a huge part of my calorie intake:)

@RJAZ520: I can't tell you how much of a weight that Fitday thing has already lifted off of my shoulders. That thing is a Godsend. Thanks so much!

@sleeplessinsc: Oh definitely, i can already see how huge an affect it will have on making this all so much easier. And oh wow, that's incredible! Congratulations! Do you work that whole three hours straight, or split it up over the course of the day? What exactly do you do? Next on my agenda is figuring out exactly what kind of exercises and activities i should do and the best way to do them, so i'm really interested in everyone's varying regimens and the like.

@Happychubette: If i'm anything, it's patient! :) I can definitely see already that this place will be a great help to me.

I usually do 30 min on the cycle first thing...then some cardo and basically mix it thru the day...Also I have stopped sitting down! I realized I burn twice as much when I am standing...so it may sound crazy but I am standing right now as I type:) My feet get tired but the pounds are dissapearing...Also salad has become my new best friend!!! A 200 calorie salad with little to no dressing can become a feast with seafood on top;)

That's good news for me, since i'm a big fan of the cycle and i love a good salad. Hopefully that'll make it a little easier to abstain from so many rare meats and junk foods.

The standing will definitely be a lot tougher to take care of, though. :D I'm so used to sitting around and never being active. I am trying to move around a lot more though, and i'm actually working on trying to get a new job where i can be a lot more active and won't be sitting in front of a computer all day.

I was using the free fitday and then yesterday I bought the $20 program.
It is well worth the money in my opinion, much easier to enter foods, overall a winner.

i'll go ahead and toss my vote in for this too. definately worth 20 bucks.

another thing... i went ahead and bought a food scale... nothing too fancy just a salter digi from amazon.com for 40 bucks, takes the guesswork out... so far i got a nice downward trend going :)
