newbie

hi im new to..... welll exercising =\
well i wanna start doing some good cardio and everytime i start running, after 3-4 blocks i run outa breath. max is like 8 blocks then im dead lol
im wondering if there is a way of increasing my stamina just keep running??
and i wanted to know whats better running fast as u can or medium speed?

try this... JMHO... I was 5'11' 260 not too long ago... and at that weight I couldn't run much either...

Try to slow down... I found that there was a space between as fast as I could walk (without major discomfort) and jogging/running... that was like a really slow jog or I could walk super fast and have the backs of my knees be uncomfortable... running at that slow speed was unconfortable on my knees... actually running faster felt easier on my knees... SO...

I ran at the speed that felt good for my legs... when I ran out of air... I would walk until I JUST caught my breath... then run some more... I felt a bit wierd doing that and wondered.. self concious(sp)... so I found a kid soccer (size of basket ball court).. and ran the long parts... and walked the short sides... felt ok about that.. now I just don't care what people think it is about me getting healthier... more fit...

what you can sustain... chances are your fitness level is such that if you are jogging/running at any pace your Heart Rate is up enough where you are benifiting...

When I first started I had the same problem I eventually built up my stamina and have no such problems now. One thing that helped me was I would run until out of breathe and walk until I caught my breath and begin running again. Eventually I could run longer and longer distances.

I was a smoker with no real stamina when I started training. The thing I did which worked very well for me and made me love running was to start very slow jogging, and if you meet uphill walk fast pace. Run the same round and eventually try to make progress by running uphill, not all, but some so you are making progress. When you have completed the lap you are running you should begin to press yourself making it a faster run, then when you think that you have good enough time on your lap start increasing run %, my rule is 20% every month, some people say this might be a little low but I wont take any chances on getting injuries. Also stretching after every workout will help you a great deal as it improves repair time for your muscles and reducing risk of injury. That is how I came to like running, you could try to modify for yourself but I think the most important thing is to listen to what your body tells you if you feel very tired all day and its a training day dont train/very mild train, perhaps bicycle as it uses other muscles than what running does. good luck!
