newbie

Hello all I am new to the thread but have been reading all of your helpful input for a while. I am glad to be here and hope I can be of some contribution to the forum. A little background.

I am 28 I have 5 children my youngest is 11 months old. As you can see by my name I am attempting to loose 50 pounds by Dec. Right now I have changed my eating by cutting out High Fructose Corn Syrup and Hydorgenated oil. We eat mostly organic foods and only whole grains. Oh and I really don't eat any sugar during the week. I have one cheat day a week which usually includes 1 cheat meal and 1 desert. I also take hydroxy cut(just started). Lastly I workout 5-6 days a week alternating between Cardo kick boxing yoga and running/eliptical 40mins.

Okay finally my ?? Is this good enough to get the results that I want 50 by dec?

Hi and welcome to the forum! Glad you joined us.
There's absolutely no way to tell if what you're doing will help you lose 50 pounds by December. Every person has different needs in terms of diet and exercise and every person loses at a different rate regaurdless. Finding the right program on your own is a lot of trial and error. Someone could post what they did to lose 50 pounds, then you could do the same thing and lose none. As a personal trainer I design workouts and nutrition progrmas for people all the time and I've never made 2 plans the same because no 2 people are the same.

That being said, it sounds like you're doing fairly well. Make sure you're eating enough total calories to support your workouts and you don't feel hungry throughout the day. Eat every 2-3 hours. Make sure your diet is balances with complex carbs and lean proteins.

Do you do any strength training? That's an essential part of a workout program.

Also, keep in mind that the hydroxycut is only a short term solution. Maybe instead of taking that think about whether or not your nutrition and exercise program now as being something you can maintain for a lifetime. A lifestyle that includes proper nutriton and exercise can give you weight loss that will stay off.

Hope I've helped.

Welcome 50bydec good luck with your goals. very doable for sure. I agree with Sarah get some weight lifting in there it will help alot. % kids should keep you moving like crazy!!! I have two and they keep me really active. Keep your diet clean and in check and workit hard and you'll see huge changes by December :D

welcome!

50bydec,
You should also get some protein in your diet if you don't already have some and drink lots of water! I think you're off to a good start. Be careful with the Hydroxycut. I take it from time to time (mostly for energy) and if you get in a rut taking it it's VERY hard to stop taking and you'll feel awful for a few days (caffeine withdrawls I think)!

Hello and welcome, welcome, welcome :D

I am against HydroxyThrowMoneyDownTheDrainandRuinMyMetabolism- err I mean HydroxyCut. I am against all of those "helpful pills." However some on the boards take them and like it. So if that's you... pay me no mind :p

How tall are you? What do you weight? I know you are 28 so that means you are still young and fabulous. Your skin should still have enough elasticity to tighten up. Any weight that you lose will be very beneficial- 50 pounds or 10 pounds.

Depending on how much you weight and your height... we can tell you if losing 50 pounds by December is realistic.

With all that said... I am SO glad you are eaitng organic and whole grains. Are you a vegetarian? It would be very helpful if you could post your daily food intake.

To get you started through... here are my 5 tips for fat loss..

1) Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should be 2-3 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb. The first meal should be eaten within an hour after waking.

2) Drink lots of water :)

3) Rest properly. This means taking at least 24-48 hours between strength training the same muscles, and it also means getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Lastly, it means taking 1-2 days off from exercising per week.

4) Cardio. This should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session, a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions.

5) Strength Training. Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. You should lift a proper weight and perform the proper amount of sets/reps for your strength training method.

All of the above things combined will result in fat loss. You have lots of kids... so be their role model :) Good luck to you!

Thanks everyone for your input. Here is more info on me.

I am not vegetarian (not that brave! ;) ) I eat meat usually only the leanest cuts and often times organic (its expensive though!!) The only meat I don't really eat is pork.

Here is my eating on a regular day

Meal 1- Organic Raisin Bran w skim milk
Meal 2- Banana
Meal3- Chx Wrap w lett/tomat/ranch
Meal4- toast w peanut butter(honey sweetened)
Meal5- Flank steak w cucumber salad
Meal6- 2 boiled eggs

Okay thats a typical day of eating. Sometimes I don't do a whole 6 meals but I try really hard. I am very busy. Also I would like to get some weight training in there but I am a bit intimidated! I mean I go to the gym and the people that do weight training are so fit. Doing the classes are a bit of a strain cause I am always the fat kid! Soo any who I am 5 1/2 and weight 198. I just wanna be in shape thats all.

Just a quick pointer for you about being a bit "intimidated." You are in the gym for YOU. Don't worry about the other people there, fit or not. Lift them darn weights. Weight training is essential to your health. Train all your body parts. Start of slowly if you are new to lifting, you don't have to lift all the weight in the gym. Use proper form on all exercises. There is no reason to be intimidated or embarassed. In fact, you should be proud of yourself for being in the gym trying to better yourself. JMO. One more thing .... meal 2 of your daily diet, I would add a bit of protein. Maybe you could eat your banana with peanut butter. Take a bite of the banana, then put a bit of PB on the banana take another bite and so on. It works for me :) Best of luck and welcome to the forum.

I don't think what you're eating is enough for your weight. I would say that's MAYBE 1200 calories a day. If you don't eat enough your body will want to store its fat and I don't think that's what you want :)

Also, I would add protein to your breakfast...maybe some egg whites and like jpc said I would also add protein to your banana snack. I wouldn't add peanut butter though since you're eating peanut butter at meal 4. I would only eat peanut butter once a day because it's high in fat. I'd add cottage cheese or something.

Def. add weight training. Take a look at those 5 tips for fat loss again. Everything you need is right in there. If you are too embarassed to hit the weight section of your gym... give up the gym membership and buy a stability ball and free weights for your home.

I agree about adding protein to breakfast and the banana meal. You could try adding a scoop of protein powder mix to your cereal. Just another thought.
