I am new to the forum, i am a male 19 years of age and 5 ft 7 inches, and 240 lbs:eek:

My ultimate goal is to get to 160lbs or 170 lbs

If you don't want to read this, i do not blame you. 2 things i need help with what to eat, how to work up to running a mile. that's RUNNING with a capitol R-U-N-N-I-N-G.

Here is my plan, its not really to improve small amounts on my diet or work out. What i want to do is tear down everything and start all over. i want, no i need a radical change of life. especially since colon cancer runs in my family. i don't want to be a 20 something year old with colon cancer because i couldn't loose pull it together and lose weight (excluding the heritage). I don't believe in the magic pills or what ever they are trying to sell. i believe in hard work to achieve my goals i set.

As said I'm 19 years old with man boobs, and big thighs. I am in college right now but I could care less about what I'm going for, I've always wanted to be a U.S. Marine but as you could figure out, the weight and being out of shape stopped me dead . . . for now. I am looking for guidance on how to change my life for the better, and drop close to 70 to 80 lbs.

My father when he was 30 or so was only 135 lbs the most, my biggest fear besides not losing the weight or even gaining more weight is, finding out that i am big boned. i can feel my rib cage between my man boobs and stomach. it seams big even if i was skin and bone. I just hope that if or when i lose some weight that it will shrink with my man boobs. Or as i just found out maybe its my big butt making it look like is further out then it really is i don't know.

For the exercise i don't want to build a lot of muscle, i am pretty strong as it is, but i want to lose the wight first then add muscle. Being that i do a lot of manual labor, i do have decent muscle underneath all that fat of mine. That is why i wanted to do running to loose fat with out gaining a lot of muscle. if you guys know any other types of exercise that will help lose weight with out putting on muscle i want to hear it. i can maybe run like 100 yards or a little more. But running 1 mile is something i always thought impossible for me, now I'm going to strive for it.

I know this was kinda long, and there was still a lot more that i wanted to write down. But actually writing this down right now helped me a little today. I need to lose weight. the only thing stronger than the need to lose weight is that, I want to lose weight.

Than you for reading this, i am now going for a 2 mile walk

Welcome! I just joined yesterday and have already found great support. I wish you all the luck. I too find that writing daily helps a lot..the daily diet forum is a great place for that.

I really love your desire to get yourself in shape and be healthy!!! My husband and I also were where you are a few months ago. So we started a program together and have turned our health around for the better! There is hope and maybe you need some good supplements to help you! Not every program out there is right for everyone, but with so many on the market I'm sure you will find a fit for you :) Good luck!

When I was your age, I had went to my step brothers boot camp graduation in february and had a mental desire to look better in my JROTC uniform at high school. I was 215 @ 6'-0", not too bad, but it wasn't up to standards and for the next few months I was diligent and merciless with my weight loss program. By the time may rolled around and I graduated from high school, I had dropped down to 185lbs in a matter of 3 months. Like I say I had the mental motivation (which is everything when it comes to weight loss) and it showed in the way I conducted myself. The way I started and progressed:

My life schedule at the time was 7-12 high school, 5-9 work...6-3 work on the weekends

Diet throughout the whole thing: regular size bowl frosty mini wheats w/milk (breakfast), two slices of wheat bread and two thin slices of ham (lunch), and the same thing that I had for lunch for dinner. Not exactly healthy but its what I did and I drank as much water as I could.

6:30 breakfast
7-10 drink lots of water (my rule was always no eating/drinking 2-3 hrs before my run time)
12:30 run 1 mile
12:50 eat my sandwich
1:00 drink as much water as I could
2-4 free time
4:30 eat my sandwich
5-8:30 working in a semi active job doing dishes

Weekends same diet, and I ran after my shift instead of noon. Same progressions with my weekly schedule happened to the weekend schedule.

That was how I started. When special occasions came up, or family required me to eat at the table away from the diet, I started to add an extra mile the next day. So my next progression was to run 2 miles for lunch. Your cardio will eventually get to a point to where its no big deal, but you have to listen to your body and you will know when the time was right. Eventually that was my new running distance instead of the 1 mile. Eventually, and id say probably a month and a half into it, when the special occasion came up again, I added on another 2 miles after my work shift. Eventually that became my typical run, and I was running 4 miles a day with no effort. It doesn't last though which was my mistake. You have to transition into a healthy diet, and cut back on the exercise once you get where you want to be. You're obviously a lot bigger than I was then, so your progression wont be as quick and your distance wont be as much on the front end. If you can get to where you're cardio is good enough to push you through a mile, then that is nothing to not be happy about. Many people cant run a full mile! Just listen to your body, and put in your best effort on each run and youll get there. Eventually the pounds will shed, and youll pass up 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile, and get to that full mile maybe push on to 2 if you stick with it long enough. Your goal should be to be mentally committed, create a routine and stick to it to the letter, and most importantly never break your routine or give up. Always strive to push that extra distance in your runs. Your cardio will push you further and further as you continue with a running routine and don't destroy it with unhealthy/unsanctioned foods out of your diet plan. Im there with you bud, I know what to do and am finally doing it again except my diet isn't so crazy this time as I want to meet my goal of a healthy sustainable lifestyle. Good luck, and have faith in yourself.
