Newbie who is trying to make changes...

Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I am almost 35 and I have a substantial amount of weight to lose. I've dieted before.. losing as much as 30 lbs... but gained it all back and then some.

I am one pound below my highest weight.

I have two children who keep me very busy... and I realize that I am not going to be able to see them grow to adults and see my grandchildren if I do not do something about my health.

My approach this time is going to be different. I'm not going to focus on the loss as much as I will on the healthy habits. I'm going to track the amount of exercise I get each week... and work on improving that. With my weight I will have to start small.....

In the past if I've had a bad day eating then I ended up having a bad week.... so I'm going to aim to just generally eat well. Watch what I eat.. record it.... and if I end up having a bad day I will chalk it up to a bad day and NOT jump off the wagon completely.

I feel confident about this today.... maybe because I'm not calling it a diet?

Who knows...

but I'm happy to be here...

Nice thinking pattern - not a diet but a journey, and that's what weight loss is. It isn't a difficult journey but when you take into account what a journey is you can definately see the same pattern.s

As starting off on a journey you always prepare, even if it is only grabbing your car keys and handbag. You then proceed to your car and drive down the street. Where then you are faced with a multitude of hurdles, that take patience to get around without giving up.

The main priority for you is to go over your plan in your head before you begin, which it sounds like you are already doing.

Remembering to prepare to fail will help you overcome the difficult parts.

A quote by Benjamin Franklin

"By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail"

Your journey may also be long but with the headstrong ways that you have approached this you may just succeed this time over any other time.

Best Wishes

Hello there Changes, and welcome aboard. I think you have a great attitude and sound very realistic about what you are getting into. Best of luck and by all means let us know if we can help

Welcome.

I know someone who says this about having a bad day or slipping up on your eating or exercise: If you trip on the top step, do you then throw yourself down the staircase in despair? Or do you regain your balance and keep going?

That, to me, is the essence of commitment to being healthy. You don't look at a trip as an excuse to destroy everything. You just pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep going. :)
