Greetings,

I'm am very happy to have found this community for inspiration.

A few years ago, I had lost 50 pounds, and I kept it off for 5 years. :) It was the first time in my life since I was in 3rd grade that I wasn't overweight. I was comfortable and happy with my body for once. I even took up running (and loved it) and got to finish a marathon.

Then life happened. I went back to college and lost track of my exercise schedule and eating habits. I gained 10 pounds which wouldn't have been so bad, but a year after graduation I ended up having a somewhat serious health problem.

I had long-term exposure to Carbon Monoxide. It was scary and painful (artheritis and hallucinations. It took the doctors forever to figure it out. I gained about 30 pounds more--either the depression it caused (lots of mood swings) or my inability to move around because of the artheritis.

Fortunately, the problem has been resolved. We discovered and fixed a gas leak in our house, and most of the side effects from the CO exposure have gone. The only thing that is not going away so easily is this weight--which is incredibly unfair as it came on so fast (I gained 8 pounds in one week).

At 5'1" I topped at 150 two weeks ago. 40 extra pounds is a lot of weight for someone my size and bone structure--especially since I gained it really fast. It hurts, it gives me trouble sleeping as a lot is concentrated on the front so I'm forced to sleep on my stomach (terrible for the back), and I can't fit into any of my clothes.

However, I'm a very stubborn person. I WILL lose all this weight--even if it takes all year (and it just might). I remember the most important tools for losing weight are discipline and patience--and this takes time. I am blessed not to have died from the CO poisoning and have a new lease on life.

So, two weeks ago, I started working on my diet. I cut out all junk food and fried stuff, and keep track of my calories (1200-1400 a day). To reduce hunger (I tend to mistake thirst for it) and stay hydrated, I try to drink about 2 quarts of water a day. So far, it appears to be working. I've steadily lost 4 pounds (and 2 inches off my waist) in 2 weeks.

If I keep on top of things, I'll see my goal weight (110 pounds) in late August to mid October. The ultimate rewards will be to run again without hurting my knees (I miss it) and to wear a cute 2-piece swimsuit when my husband and I go on our late honeymoon to the Florida Keys in the fall. :)
