Hello, my name is Tiffany, I am 21 and I am currently 35 lbs away from my weight goal of 145 lbs. I am currently 5'7" and weigh in at 180 lbs. This is not the first or second or third time that I have tried to lose weight. Over the last 2 1/2 years, I have lost roughly 10 lbs. Though, through the years, I have regained and then re-lost the weight. I get into these strange phases of doing the healthy lifestyle for a while, but then somehow slip back into the not-so-healthy lifestyle. It's a REALLY frustrating phase to go through. It constantly feels like a roller coaster.

I need to lose weight for myself, so I can live the longest life possible for myself and my family. I don't want my son to grow up in an unhealthy eating environment. He can only learn from us on how to eat and live a healthy lifestyle.

As of right now, I don't do much exercise. The weather hasn't been cooperating lately, but that shouldn't stop me. At one point, I would go on a 3 mile walk a day, with my son. Now, we are waiting for the weather to clear up some.

Two years ago, our family decided to stop eating fast food (besides subway) and stop drinking soda. We rarely every eat or drink the stuff we vowed to not do, so once in a while doesn't hurt anything. I think my biggest problem is that trying to start another weight loss journey is I LOVE FOOD. I also love sweets... chocolate especially. It's so hard to stop eating it the stuff you enjoy. I do not want to cuts sweets completely out of my diet, but limit my intake.

Little things I will be doing to change my life: Drink more water. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Eat smaller portions of food. Find new activities to do, instead of eating. Keep myself more busy so I don't feel I need/want to eat at unnecessary times. Exercise a minimal of 30 minutes each and every day.

"Let the odds be ever in your favor."

Let the Journey begin!

Hi Tiffany, welcome to the forums! To lose fat and keep it off, there has to be a change in attitude about food, as long as you keep loving those things that are bad for you, fat loss won't happen permanently. When the mind dwells on how much you miss bad food, sooner or later it'll give in and the cycle goes round and a round.

A way that's worked for me is to first study up on how bad for the body all that greasy, sweet, fat and salt laden food is, Google it. Your very young and have your whole life ahead to live. You don't want to start out already destroying the body.

Another thing is to have people around you help out by not offering bad food or going to places that sell it. You have to put your foot down and be firm. It's your body, you have to become a little selfish for your sake.

Anyway read around, study about foods, and don't dwell on bad foods, put them out of mind as being bad. Also, think of ways to keep moving, you've heard it before, park further away from the store for instance, and get into that habit of working out, not temporarily but for life.

Try and understand what has got in the way of you doing all the things you say you will in the past and work out how to eliminate those barriers.

Welcome to the forum.

Lots of us love food - but we get to a stage where we have to decide whether we love the idea of having a healthy body more...

Maybe things like sugar free sweets and gum would keep your mouth occupied without adding as many calories...

Swearing off danger foods has worked well for you in the past (possibly since you did it as a family). You could discuss as a family whether you wanted to expand the list to include a current danger food like chocolate... I find that I can avoid food entirely ok - but I have great difficulty in eating the same things in moderation...

You already know that exercise would be a key good habit to acquire when building the new lifestyle that will give you the figure that you desire... I am afraid the comment on the weather sounds a bit like an excuse (lots of us spent decades building a repertoire of such excuses)... There are lots of good exercises that you can do inside... Walk up and down the stairs lots of times, jump up and down dancing to music, do some sit-ups, squats, lunges, jumping jacks... You can get cheap weights and resistance bands at supermarkets these days - or improvise with things like water bottles... This is without thinking of playing an exercise disc or going to a gym...

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends

Good luck with your project.
