Hello everyone
I'm a newbie to forums, but not to the weight loss world.
I have just recently started on my new weight loss regimine after my last one (the Atkins Diet) was extremely successful, but I gained back the weight.
I am 38 years old. When I got married 19 years ago, I packed a mere 150 pounds into my then-atheletic frame. After 2 children (now teenagers) and a career change that landed me a deskjob, I found myself at 210 pounds at the end of 2004. Knowing I HAD to do something, I went on the Atkins Diet and got back down to 170 pounds (in my opinion, a relatively good weight for me - size 12). How I ever thought the Atkins diet would work is beyond me. I LOVE carbs! I'm the PASTA queen! In any case, as soon as I went off the diet, the pounds packed on SO quickly! Beginning of 2010, I found myself at my all-time high weight of 235 pounds!! Size 20!!!
I have come to the realization after all these years that a person (or at least me) CANNOT do a special "diet" which limits ANY type of food whatsoever. I LOVE food! Plain and simple.
This time, I'm just taking what I call the "healthy choices" approach. Rather than that donut for breakfast, I'm having oatmeal and banana. Rather than that hamburger for lunch, I'm having salad with grilled chicken. Rather than eating 2 cups of mashed potatoes smothered in sour cream, a big ole steak and brocolli smothered in cheese for dinner, I'm having 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes, 1/2 of a small steak, and the biggest salad with fresh broccoli you can find.
I have incorporated exercise into my routine. No, I don't have extra time on my hands to exercise, but I am MAKING the time. I do 10 miles on a stationary bike (about 20 minutes), and I fit at least 1 very brisk, 1-mile walk into my routine each day. Three days a week I am also doing some strength training on my son's weight lifting system (he's my "personal trainer").
I have been on this healthy eating plan for about a month no and have incorporated the exercise the past couple of weeks. I have dropped 7 pounds and can now fit comfortably in a size 18. Yay!!!! Progress!!! I honestly believe that my body reflects MUCH more progress than the scales at this point.
I have been reading through some of the posts on this forum and I feel this is a WONDERFUL opportunity for people to gain and gather support from one another. Weight loss is such a frustrating struggle. All the support a person can get is very helpful. I look forward to reading and sharing all our success stories! Thanks for letting me join!
