Newbie that needs a little support

Hello, everyone! I just joined about a half hour ago and thought I would take some time to talk about my experience with weight loss. I am currently around 185 pounds and 5'5" tall. I would like to be 125 pounds by the end of the year. I have struggled with my weight for about 4 years now, however I have struggled with self-image issues pretty much all my life. I'm a self-proclaimed binge eater and have been for awhile now. I'm not sure exactly what triggers it or why I do it, which is part of the reason I joined. I don't really have anyone I can relate to and talk to about this issue. I am in college right now and both of my roommates are tiny compared to me so I feel a bit out of place, like I don't belong or something, and I think if I did talk to them about this, they wouldn't fully understand. The only person I really share my feelings with about my weight is my mother, but I don't really talk about the binge eating. My binges have gotten a lot better than they were, but I still eat even when I'm not hungry. If you were to ask me now, I couldn't tell you when the last time I felt hungry was. I hope by posting this that some of you can relate and we can talk and support each other. Also, I have set a goal weight of 150 pounds by August 18, 2007, which is when we move back in for the fall semester. I think this would be great to show off my new weight to everyone. Do you all think this is a feasible goal? Thanks so much for listening and I hope to talk with some of you soon!

Hello and welcome...
Come to think of it i think im, well, hopefully was... so far so good. anyhoo. Yeah. I would frequently put some serious grubbege on stuff like, pizza, spaghetti, but my true thing was peanut butter and jelly sadwiches, just like randomly, even when i wasn't hungry, more for me is the taste, i guess, not sure if that counts as binge eating.

I highly reccomend doing a lot of reading so you can understand what is entailed, and make the transition at a comfortable pace. every little bit helps,

Also you might want to check out fitday.com. it calculates based on your stats, and how much you want to lose, how many calories you have to cut. It has an extensive listing of foods that you type in and it takes the pain out of calculating. Might sound a little overwhelming but it actually gets very easy after like a day.

Thanks for the advice! Fitday.com is pretty neat. I just signed up for it today. I look forward to talking more and getting to know you guys better! Thanks again!

welcome to the forum....I think your goal is very much realistic...I wish you the best of luck, and hope to see you around here....

Hey, I just joined here myself and I can completely understand about the whole eating thing. I can eat ridiculous amounts of things like pasta, pizza, I guess anything carbs. Which is why I gained a lot of weight. About a year ago I changed my eating and I eat so much better than I used to but I still struggle with my portions when pasta/pizza is around. Basically anything I LOVE to eat I eat it for the taste even if I'm not hungry. I haven't done that so much lately compared to before, but I still do that every so often.

Changing your eating habits can be hard but just start one step at a time. Try to keep only healthy things in your house to eat and watch portions. I used to keep track of calories (and I just started again today with that) and it really does help you see what and how much you're eating. Plus, when I was doing it before, I would look at a food I shouldn't eat and think to myself... now do I really want to go through all the work to figure out the cal's for this? And so I wouldn't eat it. There are some neat sites you can go to which you can put the food you eat and it calculates all the calories for you.

I really wish you the best of luck with your weight loss and I hope this has helped in some way. :)

hello! i understand how u feel when ur roommates are smaller than u and stuff.. what i can say is not to let things like these get to u.. they may be thin and all but they may not be healthy, and being too skinny doesnt look good either.. try and be more confident of urself.. i used to resort to impulsive binging in the past.. i would binge on anything and everything! chocs, junk food, sweets, cake, etc.. and the weight would just pile on before i realized it! but thinking back, i've always felt bloated and lethargic after binging..just felt like eating more and doing nothing else.. so whenever i feel like binging i'll think about the consequences and tell myself that it's not worth it.. anw thanks for sharing and all the best to u yea! =)
