Newbie saying "Hi"

I'm a 44 year old guy who, like many, has been stuggling with weight loss. I can't remember how many times I have lost some weight only to gain it back again and them some. After recently hitting an all time high of 271 pounds, I think I have mentally hit the point where I know that I needed to get serious about getting into shape. It's true that once you get into your 40's, your body really starts to change and losing weight will never get easier. I want to be around for a long time for my wife and 3 children.

I've alway searched out forums on the internet for other interests of mine, but never though to do so for weight loss until now. This forum is full of great information and motiviation and I think it is just the tool I need to help support my weight loss.

Like I said, just wanted to say Hi and look forward to reporting on my success and reading about others!

Hey kgetch,

That's a hard name to pronounce.

First, I want to tell you that although age does play a part in your weight, your weight loss is totally controllable. I am 54 years old and look better than most guys who are 30 years younger than me in the gym. No kidding.

It is my observation that the people that successful commit to lose weight and keep it off, do so scientifically. That is, they state:

1. What is their weight today
2. What is the weight that will achieve
3. How long will it take.

And from this, they choose a plan and stick to it. Your results will be in direct proportion to how much you want this. After this answer, it is all a numbers game to lose weight. No mysteries at all. You live a long life, be healthy and have energy too.

So, how much do you want this?
