Hello,

Im a 25 year old male and im 5'6 and about 220lbs. I currenly work in the IT feild which requires no real phsical effort and supplys no real oppurtunitys to get any excercise as apart of my job responsibilitys. I do have some extra meat on the thighs but not much on my calves and id like to see more muscle on my bicep area as oppsed to fat i currently have but most of my body is just a little extra and doesent truely bother me much. However, i do have a large belly these days and in my future weight loss thats the one thing id love to lose!

I have no real weight loss goals such as a target weight. id just about take any weight where i dont have the belly! One thing I am interested in is building muscle and stamina.

I know absolutly nothing about fitness!!!

What brings me here?

Results have just motivated me to get serious!

About 1 year ago i made the decision to quit smoking.

Then about 4 months ago i gave up Soda and started to drink alot more water.

About 2 months ago i gave up fast food and started to more frequently visit Quiznos for there salads as opposed to BK or McDonalds for a burger.

Just about 1 and a half months ago i preety much made a rule that once 8pm rolled around there was no more food for me! (I was a very bad late night eater which ive heard can be very very bad for you weight wise)

Now with just these steps and no real excersice thrown in several people have made mention of me slimming out a little and asking me if im trying to lose weight. Id imagine its a subtle diffrence but im begining to see what they mean. I never noticed till i really starting looking at myself but i do think ive lost 5 or more pounds in that last couple months. Not alotta weight but not bad for just simple life changes and no excersice. Id imagine with these changes id continue to lose 2 or so lbs a month but i wish it could be more

So now im ready to take the next step and add excersice into my routine and turn this 2-3ilb a month weight loss into somthing more. So knowing nothing i just tried to use what i had to get a start and learn what i need to do and move from there.

I do own a tredmill which in the last week ive begain to use daily and id like some advice as to how to best utilize a tredmill since its the only real peice of workout machinery i can use without leaving the house.

1.) Some people at work have mentioned to me that the tredmill is a waist of time or that its overrated... Can i get any good results from the tredmill?

Currently Im setting the tredmill to 3.2Mph, which is a preety quick walk thats gets me sweating and my heart pumping, and walking for aprox 30 min then after i get off I play around with my bench press doing like 2 sets of bench presses (id have to go look at how much weight is on there but 20 times really gets my arms tired) then ill play with my free weight which is like 15lbs and ill do 3 dif kind of sets to work dif muscles and thats preety much it untill i really know what to focus on. Im not sure if im really even doing enough but its the only three things i got round the house and it seemed better then nothing

Well im not real sure what else to say so ill leave it up for suggestions and comments and maybe i can fill in any questions people may have....

Like i think i said before if its possible id like to focus on building muscle and stamana with weight loss being a secondary focus or even a nice side effect of the muscle increase

weel i just ready that article that was written by Rachel Cosgrove on how to gain fat.... darn it i need more help then i thought!

She totally shot down the tredmill idea i was already curios about... i gueed 30 min a day at a constant 3.2Mph is not a great idea
1. Do long, slow aerobic exercise every day.
The more aerobics you do, the more your metabolism can slow down, the more
efficient your body will be at storing fat, especially if you're looking to gain some
size on your thighs!
Recommendation: Go to the gym every single day and find a treadmill or
Stairmaster where you can watch TV while you're working out. After all, you're
going to be there for a while. Do at least an hour per day, seven days per week at a
very steady state (you should be able to carry on a conversation easily the entire
workout).
Why it works to store fat: Your body will actually use fat as fuel during this
workout (you should be in the "fat burning zone") which will create the perfect
effect we want for the other 23 hours of the day - fat storing mode. Yes, your body
will adapt to become efficient at storing fat.
This workout will do nothing to increase your metabolism either. You'll burn off
muscle, decreasing your lean muscle mass, and actually slow down your
metabolism.
So get to the gym and start spending countless hours doing aerobics, burning off
muscle, and turning your body into a fat storing machine! This is a perfect way to
gain some body fat!

I guess thats exactly what ive started to do thinking it was a good thing :(

And then theres is

4. Eat only 1-2 meals a day!
Eating meals less frequently is a great way to keep your metabolism in the gutter
all day long and will be ideal for storing fat.
Recommendation: The less often you eat, the better. If you can distract yourself all
day and skip a couple of meals, you'll set yourself up perfectly to store fat. And
never eat breakfast to assure that you start your day off in a fat storing mode. For
best results, don't eat anything until dinner and then just eat the one meal before
you fast again overnight.
Why this works to store fat: Again, every time you eat, your metabolism increases.
If you skip a meal, your metabolism will drop, and if you skip more then one meal
you can get that metabolism running very slow - perfect for storing body fat.
Having a sluggish metabolism is ideal if you want to put on the chub, and this is a
great way to achieve it.

Dammit, i only eat Lunch and Dinner these days.

If im already eating a decent lunch and a resonable dinner what else should i be eating and when? I already know i need to start eating breakfast but im unsure what the best thing to eat for breakfast either...

Now im feeling a little more lost!
