newbie looking for a feminine workout plan/video

Hi all
I am dextress (my online identity). Its been around 2 weeks since i started working out at home. I have a couple of videos like Jillian Michaels and Kristy Gallacher etc. I am so totally confused which one to opt coz what i am looking for is just sheding just 10 lbs and toning the body instead of those killer 6 pack abs or an athletic body. I dont want to bulk myself with muscles. I rather want to cut down the fat instead of turning the fats into muscles. So can someone tell me which kind of exercises to omit. Or let me know of a video/trainer or book that i can refer for the same (one i can get online). I googled about it and i got Tracy Anderson, but again she has 3 videos and i am confused which one to choose or which ones to combine for as short as a 20-30 mins workout.

Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated.
thanks

I am far from an expert as I am learning but I would say you do need muscle to lose the fat from my observation at least.

A big myth women have is that becuase they get muscle they are going to be big and bulky but that is not the case. You will just be defined. :)

Anyways, I dont have the best advise as again I am a bit new....LOL

Good luck in reaching your goal.

Thanks chickyp for the advise. so you mean i wont get broad shoulders from those push ups? I dont like it broad and bulky. I really hope someone could help me out on this one.

One more thing, how many minutes of stretching is required after a 20 min workout which includes strength and cardio?
thanks

You'll get broad shoulders if you take injections of testosterone, human growth hormone, steroids, stop taking birth control pills and/or lift weights 5 hours / day. Otherwise, don't worry, you can't "bulk up".

HI dext...

Dont worry about the bulking ... has said before you can not bulk up unless you are massively TRYING to! LOL

I do a 5 minute stretch before my work out and after. But that could be wrong. Do a search here on the boards and see what you come up with. Good luck!

I recommend you look at the Get Ripped video series. I take the live classes at the gym owned by Jari Love who created this workout. It's very popular with the ladies at our gym and I've seen and experienced personally the results it gets. It's high rep/low weight strength training, with variable speeds/tempo, lots of variation with holds, pulses, etc... to burn calories and build strength. For me it's a good contrast to the heavier weight training I do. I work harder in these classes than I ever would on my own in the gym. The videos have been reviewed by the New York times, Fitness Magazine, the LA Times, and many other publications.

For stretching after your workout, you should do a stretch for each body-part you exercised (biceps, triceps, hamstrings, etc... for example, whatever you hit during your workout), and hold each stretch for about 30 seconds. Recently though I've seen some research in Yoga Journal that says to be effective a stretch should be held for at least a minute. They didn't quote their source, so I don't know what that's based on, but I would go with 30 seconds to a minute per body part.

Hope this helps...

Dextress,

You want a body pump video that focuses on high repitition to trim and tone (cut) your muscles.

My wife is a huge fan of Slim and Lean by Jari Love, get the DVD and aim for 2 to 3 times a week.

Trust me in the beginning it will be a really tough video but once your body adapts to the workout, you will be very very pleased with the results.
