Hi all,

Well, I just sort of jumped in and started posting the other day instead of introducing myself. Figure I better come back and do this right.

Like my sig says, I'm a 40 yo small woman. I've been working on losing some extra weight for at least ... hmm.... since 2005 for sure. But I'd say I had packed some of this on after 2001. Had been injured in 2001. Then had some health problems afterwards ... and well ... this weight just sort of came on as my lifestyle was curbed. I wasn't active anymore. In fact, I remember in about 2005/2006 I just ballooned up about 2 pant sizes really fast at one point. I thought I'd shrunk my blue jeans in the dryer to be honest with you. I didn't understand it at all.

Well, after I started getting my health under control, I tried to start losing weight. It was frustrating as heck. I was doing all the right things. Eating all the right foods, but the weight came off in tiny amounts for a short while and then just .... s t o p p e d. Nothing I did helped. I gave up.

Then last summer, I got a hula hoop for my birthday. It has been an absolute dream. I started with 2 minutes per day for a week. Then added a minute here and there. Today I try to do two 15-minute sessions per day - but I shoot for a minimum of 10 minutes if something messes up the usual plan.

And I also stopped weighing myself! I use only the tape measure now. And I've been so happy to see the inches melt off. I compared my 2006 measurements to today and found I have lost about 5.5 inches off my hips, about 4 or more off my waist, two inches off each upper thigh. Very happy.

Found some pics last night showing what I looked like about 10 yrs ago - before the weight came on - and I nearly cried seeing how much better I looked. But, I'm on my way, I'm looking way better now than I did last year, infinitely better than I looked in 2006 pictures. So, I'll just keep going. If I get gutsy I'll post some pics showing this change.

Phew! Sorry to be long winded.

Nice to meet you all.

Good for you...losing the inches, doing something fun!

I wish I COULD hoola hoop...have tried many times, and I just can't do it! I feel so un-coordinated whenever I try! LOL!

I don't have an actual hula hoop, but I do have a wii fit, and the hula hoop thing on there kicks my butt!

I know what you mean!!!
Especially going left after going right for the alotted time.
I always get a kick outta my "circles" that it shows me at the end. :biggrinjester:
More like eggs if ya ask me! LOL

I agree with ya dilynnlew. If it wasn't for my wii-fit I wouldn't be able to hula hoop at all. Of course since I hula in an egg shape I guess I better just stick to virtual reality! hahaha

I feel like SUCH an idiot doing it. I feel like it's much more of a workout than actual hula hooping, which comes pretty easy to me!

Thanks everyone. :)

BnB - I hadn't heard about hooping until the year before - when a woman on a blog mentioned how she made one in a class, and then used it every night while watching tv. She said she totally lost her "muffin tops" - about 50 pounds. I figured, hey, for $20 that's not a bad risk. Do a google on the word: hooping Then do another for: hoop girl See if you can see some videos of hoop girl. It's a major fitness craze I guess. All I care is that it is cheap and it works. LOL I don't do the dance - I just plain old hoop while watching tv.

Any of you who think you're not coordinated - I'll let you in on a couple secrets. First, you don't want the dollar store variety of kid's hoops. Those are small and feather-weight - and theyr'e impossible to keep up unless you're hyperactive and 60 pounds. LOL. I got mine from a guy who has a plumbing business - it is made of irrigation tubing with a foam covering for comfort. Only weighs about 2 pounds max - not a heavy weighted hoop which can hurt your back and bruise you. It's about 40" diameter - wider hoops are easier to keep up!

The biggest secret is that you're not trying to rotate your hips in a circle -you're sort of moving your hips forward and backward - not around. :)

Kimmy - that Wii sounds like a great idea. So many people love them. Anything that gets us moving sounds good in my book. lol

The wii is great if you use it right!!

You can take a body test on it, which does its best to measure your posture and your weight (they show you your BMI before you click on weight).

It keeps a chart and tracks your weight, which I love about it. I've gotten into a horrible habit of weighing myself everyday before I go to work. If I haven't lost or if I have gained a little, I really let it get to me.

I know it's really bad to focus SO MUCH on your weight like that...and that's the thing I don't like about it. But I guess it's the same as having a bathroom scale (which I don't have)
