Hi everyone!
I just found and joined this forum last night. I joined the June weight loss challenge on the board and also started a Daily Check In thread. (In case you are not aware, if you click on "new posts" along the blue bar on the top of the screen, it will show you all of the threads with recent activity)

Here's my story:

I am 39 and want to loose half my body weight by the time I turn 40 (Aug. 2011).

My weight has always been an issue for me. The only thing that ever worked for me was Weight Watchers. I lost 40 lbs on ww right before I got married in 2001. Two kids later and I have gained a lot of weight.

I am a SAHM (Stay at Home Mom) and eat when I am bored, upset, angry, emotional, happy, etc. Right now, I pretty much don't have any will power, energy, or motivation. I hope to change that which is why I joined this board.

So there's my story - hope to find support here and also be able to offer some to others.

I actually can't believe I did that. I posted I was 39, but am actually 38 (until Aug.). Anyone else can't remember your age? Sheeesh.

Hi, Welcome and congratulations on taking a positive step. You're actually halfway there when you put your goals out there where everybody can see it. Now you must just want it hard enough and by the way willpower is a myth. No such thing. It is you who must want something so much that you make it a part of your daily life. In other words, break the habit or that destructive downward spiral that you're in. Beat it and be is master.

By the way all those things you name like no energy, no willpower and no motivation just shows you that you're subconsciously beating up on yourself, maybe even blaming yourself that you're weak. A sure fired sign that you're depressed and if you don't beat the depression first you will not reach your goal.

Don't demand too much of yourself. Just want it, do it and be yourself.

Thanks for the welcome JacV!

I appreciate your support. Here's a question:

Did the depression cause the no energy, no willpower and no motivation which resulted in excess weight?

Or--

Did the excess weight cause the no energy, no willpower, no motivation resulting in depression?

Hi

No energy and stuff like that are usually symptoms and not the cause. Most of the time our lifestyle is to blame. Stress is usually the culprit because it causes a lot of changes such as hormonal imbalances, disruption of sleep cycle etc... to name only a few.

Depression usually result from stress and stress can take many forms. Loneliness, money worries, memories from the past, abuse during childhood and even some medication.

So to me it is usually the wisest to first find the cause of overweight and then work from there. Many people constantly fail because they never address the cause of their weight problems and then they blame the diet they're following.

I hope that answers your question. If you want to chat some more about this feel free because it is actually a fascinating topic and by learning more, it is so much easier to deal with weight loss.

Have a great day.

Hey there Tiny!

Just wanted to stop by and lend my support! Hope you had a great weekend. I understand the whole eating when you are bord etc.... I do the same thing. I am lucky in the fact that I go to work every day, and am not at home for that time. That is when I tend to strugle the most.

Good luck, and TTYL
