Hey everyone! I just found this forum a few minutes ago and I'm super excited to (hopefully) meet some new people.

A little bit about me: I'm a university student, located in Oregon (if there's any other locals around, I'd love to chat with you!) and I've to date lost around 50 pounds so far, but I've reached a bit of a stand-still so I'm trying to kick things into gear. A new work out routine has left my abs on fire for the past few days, but other than that, I'm feeling pretty great so far!

I overuse exclamation points, but only because I really am loud in real life. :p

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi, nice to meet you all.

Almost seven months now. I made some half-assed efforts before that, but it's really been since February that I've been really trying. :)

Hey kenziderae!

Good Job! 50lbs is great! What sort of diet you eating?

I feel as if I'm reaching the dreaded stand still point too! I would love to get some more info on the changes you made to you're workout! Specially whatever "left your abs on fire". Basically, a couple of weeks ago I decided to hire a trainer because I don't like the gym and needed a kick in the bum! Having him to make me work out is great but he wants me to do abs/core on my own and he's shown me some exercises which are pretty easy, so am looking for something harder, but he's on holiday atm so am a bit stuck for inspiration.

Also noticed you're a student, me too, what you studying?

Hey aly6690!

Mostly I've just been making a lot of little changes over the past few months, counting calories, and keeping a journal of everything I eat and any exercise I do on a day to day basis. Uh, let's see, what do I do. I'm a vegetarian. I stopped drinking soda everyday (gave it up for Lent and now I drink it maybe once a month, if that), stopped eating most fried foods (especially potato chips and fries), added in a lot more whole foods and subtracted some processed foods, just things like that. Also, if I'm really craving something and I'm legitimately hungry (like that one week of the month when I'd kill for some chocolate... and potatoes, oddly enough XD), I allow myself to have what it is I want, so long as it's within my alloted number of calories, because I know if I keep telling myself no, I'll just want it more and more. So, nothing really miraculous, I guess.

I really kind of went from doing little to no ab/core exercise to doing it 2-3 time a week, so what I'm doing might be pretty easy for you as well, but it sure feels like a work out to me! I just do 25 crunches, 50 bicycle crunches (25 each side), and 25 "v-crunches" (legs straight and perpedicular with the floor, do a crunch, brining your arms up like you're making a v. It doesn't really look like a v to me, but that's how it was explained to me haha). Then I rest for a couple seconds and repeat that twice more (so three times total). But if you've got a trainer and you're actually used to doing ab exercises, what I do really might not be hard for you at all. I also dance a lot (nothing fancy, I just throw on some hip hop or latin music and get down with my bad self) and I can feel the abs burning after a nice 30-40 session of that. I'd love to know what you're doing as well. :)

I'm currently on the fence as to whether I want to study English or Applied Linguistics, with a minor in Spanish either way I go. What about you?

Hey!

Well food wise we're doing similar things! I gave up all fizzy drinks pretty much all together now. Food wise, I try to eat small meals regularly rather than the usual brekkie, lunch n dinner. Also I try to eat some form of protein every time I eat. I've basically cut out most processed food and really cut down on wheat products like pasta and bread. Fried foods, chocolate and sweets etc are all out, but I do have them as a treat once in a while.

Exercise wise, since I've been seeing Rick, my trainer, things have really changed! The first couple of weeks I started, without him, I did the same workout or same sort of workout everytime I was in the gym! Which was working but now that I have a proper program, I can see my self getting fitter. Basically, I'm working out 4x a week. 2 of these have 30-40mins of cardio interval training and then resistance work, focusing on upper or lower body. The other two workouts are circuit based...and vary depending on how much Rick tortures me! The first week was hard but not too hard, but its definetely become much harder. Specially because I HATE running and he knows that!

I'm meant to do abs on mondays and wednesdays to fit in. For my abs I do 30 seconds on mountain climbers and 50 jacks then 20 crunches, then a 15sec plank and repeat that 3 times. Then 15 leg lifts and 15(alternating, but 15 each side) heel touches (basically you do a crunch but then reach for you right ankle with your right hand, it works your obliques, same on the other side) and repeat that 3x. At first the I couldnt do 3x 15 leg lifts so did what I could and built it up. But now I dont feel sore after this so want to try and take it up a notch. I think I might try yours because you seem to do a lot more reps, and add on some leg lift for lower abs too. Think I might give that a go.

Uni wise, I'm doing Biology. Wish we had the chance to minor here coz would have loved to do love to minor in Spanish coz I did it for A level and loved it!

SORRY for the long post!

Xxx

I could never completely cut down on pasta, good lord do I love my pasta haha. But I switched to whole grains and instead of, you know, devouring half the box in one sitting, I actually pay attention to the serving sizes. Novel idea, that. XD

I think I'll have to try some of your workout too, see how that goes. I weighed in this morning and I'm start to lose weight again, so huzzah. Gotta keep these abs working.

I looove Spanish, that's too bad you don't have minors!
