Hello my name is Karen. I am a 33 yr old mom with a 4 year old daughter. I am currently a SAHM, but I am hoping to start a job next year working with a local preschool agency. I have a congenital heart defect which limits my exercise. I was always tiny (weighed 70 pounds at 15) and then I had open heart surgery and the weight started to pack on. I had weighed 200lbs when I got pregnant with my daughter and only gained 15 pounds during pregnancy, which I lost right away. At a recent doctors appointment my wieght was up to 230. My goal is to lose 80 pounds within the next year. My exercise right now consists of walking about 1 mile a day (sometimes I can get 2 miles in depending on how the first mile went) I am hoping to be able to increase my walking as I drop the pounds.
I already try to watch what I eat. I eat a lot of chicken, steamed veggies, and low fat items. My one downfall -- I haven't been able to give up my coke. I have switched to coke zero, but I am having a hard time doing away with it completely.

I hope that I will have the chance to chat with a lot of nice, helpful people.

I am so happy to welcome you to the most encouraging website EVER! I am new too- and have found so much encouragement, inspiration, and insight from this forum. Everyone is so sweet and you can learn so much.

I am so glad you are here and I have no doubt that you can reach your goals. Good luck with your weight loss and like someone encouraged me to - I'll tell you the same I was told- start a weight loss diary.

Glad to have you here with us :)

Baby steps... that's what losing weight long term is all about. :) Good luck with it and welcome to the forum.

Welcome Karen and good luck. Coke zero has no calories does it? I wouldn't worry about eliminating diet soda unless there is another health reason for it. (But then I'm new to the site so I may be giving bad advice here)
