Newbie Here to Say Hello

Hi. Let me introduce myself. My name is Michele. I'm 19, and basically, I'm here to get some advice and see what others are doing that works. I'm willing to try new things with workouts and "diets" (the ugly word), but I must warn you, I'm still in college living on campus, so I'm quite limited in the whole variety thing.
For the past 2-3 days, I have actually changed my diet dramatically. In the morning (I used to skip breakfast), I eat scrambled eggs with yogurt and granola. For lunch, I grab a soup or sometimes salad (once again, I used to skip this meal), and for dinner, it usually varies depending on what kinds of bad oncampus food there is (this one is the hardest since it's usually junk food but I try to find what's best for the diet). Then after dinner around 9PM, when all is said and done, I do 45 min. of elliptical or cross trainer work. (Reminder: This is the new me, not old me)
Here are things for the whole diet and exercise thing I hate/love/miss:
I absolutely love the cardio machines like ellipticals or crosstrainer.
I hate the dreaded treadmills and weight training.
My iPod<3 is my companion in my workouts.
I hate, hate, hate salads.
I am a choco-holic and I miss it so much.
Goal: Just get in shape for the summer. Lose some flab as well as gain some cardiovascular endurance, so maybe I can conquer the treadmill once and for all. 120lbs is just an estimate. Once I get to the point of what I'm happy with, I'll settle. I'm really not looking to "lose weight" but to gain confidence and self-esteem through feeling better about myself.
So, basically that is me, and if you have any advice, sock it to me.

Well welcome. I suggest doing at least some weight training for all your major muscle groups as it will keep your body from cannibalizing you muscle tissue as you lose weight, even the small amount you're aiming for.

I'm right there with you as far as salads, veggies aren't my thing but I've been trying. I usually go for the things that add a little sweetness like carrots, red onions and red peppers along with a small amount of low fat dressing.

If you can exercise a little earlier in the evening then try to as doing it so close to the time you go to bed can decrease the quality of your sleep.

Have two low cal snacks a day to keep your metabolism up and so you aren't tempted to over eat during dinner where you have little control over the prep and ingredients of the food you eat.

If you like chocolate HAVE IT. Just remember that calorie-dense foods like chocolate should only be eaten in small amounts occasionally. If you want to have a small square off your Hershey bar every few days go for it so you don't feel deprived of something you like, otherwise you might end up binging on it.

i would exercise earlier, but the on campus gym in my residence hall is only open during certain hours because of workstudy students. and not to mention, i have classes all day.
but thank you for the tips. i will do the low cal foods throughout the day. i have nutrigrain bars and special k bars floating around my room and i never eat them. i always forget to eat throughout the day. eating a breakfast AND a lunch is def. a hug improvement for me.
by the way, i just ate a piece of chocolate. tee-hee.
