Newbie - Depressed By Lose Skin

Hi

I have lost over 3 stone since Feb and my boobs have shrunk a lot leaving lots of lose wrinkly skin, which is really getting me down, it's horrible.

I am sure I am not the only one to experience this, so if anyone has any suggestions to help tone and firm them that would be much appreciated.

I have just purchased a bench and some weights to do some chest exercises (dumbell flies), is there anything else I can do. Looking at them I literally want to cry :(

Because of health issues surgery at this time is not an option and to be honest it wouldn't be a path I would want to go down anyway.

Thanks in advance
Marie

Loose skin can tighten up, but it depends on a lot of things. Some of them are age, how long you were overweight, how overweight were you. So if you could give us some more information about that, it would be helpful. In general, the skin needs a lot of TLC after being stretched - make sure you use moisturiser or oil to keep it hydrated, and keep yourself hydrated as well. All of that helps your skin to repair itself and tighten up to a certain degree. Exercise doesn't really help with loose skin - the only thing you can do with that is fill out the loose skin with muscle instead of fat.

Hi

Well unfortunately I am not in my 20's (where it is likely to just spring back). I'm 41

I have lost just over 3 stone and have about the same still to lose which is why I am concerned because if they are wrinkly at this stage what will they be like when I lose more weight :(

I have probably been overweight for about 10 years, not to the same degree, but it has slowly grept on over the years.

As I say I really can't go down the surgery route, like some, so am really hoping there is something I can do. They don't look that bad with my bra off it's when I have a bra on and look down it, of I lift them up, then as I say yuk, all wrinkly and loose.

I just turned 25 and I have loose skin problems as well... I was 312 lbs at one time and as I lose it it just hangs there. I have foudn that the sweat bands that you can buy at any fitness store or Walmart (I bought at walmart for $5) does help to at least shape the fat. LOL or thats what I keep telling myself.

Well, I'm 38, have been overweight since I was about 16. I was 370 at my heaviest, have lost 5 stone so far, about another 6 or 7 to go. Same thing here, loose skin, boobs have shrunk, but to be honest, I never had any illusions about my skin tightening up. The loose skin is something that I totally expect. At my age, and with the amount that I had too much, there is just no way that the skin is going to recover. It's just one of those things I'll have to put up with.

I don't know if there is anything out there that really helps (and no, the sweatbands, whatever that is, don't help - you can't 'shape fat', and even if you could, it wouldn't help with loose skin). All that I am aware of is to make sure that you drink enough water (keeping the skin hydrated gives it at least a fighting chance of recovery), and just loads of TLC like moisturiser and gentle massages. Maybe exfoliating, anything that gets the circulation in the skin going. It might not make it all perfect, but it might help a little and give the skin a chance. That's really all I can think of, sorry.

Well i know of this product that helps get rid of cellulite on the back of your legs but also tightens the skin. It has also helped me get rid of stretch marks..hence tightening skin lol.

When does loose skin start to appear by the way? I'm soon to my goal ( I'm 22 and I was 253 lbs ( 115 kgs ) when I started I'm now at 191 lbs ( 86.9 kgs ) and I have no loose skin at all for the moment.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

I havent really got much to add to this - since San has covered it all.

Benny - I have known some people get no loose skin after losing substantial amounts of weight - it depends on a lot of factors - if you havnt got any then be happy and look after your skin (drink lots of water, some healthy fat in your diet, cream your skin, lose weight gradually etc)...

While some people would like to think that usmc-cpl had an answer for people - he was banned because he was trying to sell products on these boards - and he did divulge that his personal weight loss project lasted 4.5 weeks... I doubt that he would have added much if he had been asked about what he knew...

I have loads of loose skin (was 21 stone, now 10.5 stone, aged 54, was big for over 20 years)... The only answer for me is surgery - and if I won the lottery I would have the works... No sign of NHS paying for it - but I did get put forward to the PCT for my boobs about 4 years ago and am still waiting despite having excellent letters from 2 NHS breast consultants saying that I "clearly need" it... In the meantime I am stuck with 32JJ boobs that are all skin and no filling... I have been told that if it happened I would be flat chested...

My skin is undoubtedly a nightmare - but I am tons better off with the loose skin and not the weight that filled it out... The week after I got to my current weight in my big project (2008) I got rushed into hospital and needed an emergency operation... it is perfectly possible that losing weight saved my life... it is a lot less risky having an operation if your BMI is 26 compared to 52...

Loose skin beats the alternative...

I suggest that you read the following thread - it may help you settle in and make friends here

Good luck with your project.

I'm 40 and have lost 3 stone to date with another 12 Lbs to go and I have so kind of got used to being slimmer that I sometimes think I have gained weight when i look at the fatty bits and loose skin still clinging to my waist line and thighs but I am reassured that it's only a matter of time before they shrink down. Don't get dishearted you have done the hardest bit :)
