Hi everyone, this is Shirly, am a newbie here.
Its great to see this forum - probably just what I needed (i hope)..I weigh 182 lbs for a while now. During last 6 months I have 'resolved' to lose weight for at least 3 times, each time stuck to diet change and exercise for like 2-3 weeks, lost 4 lbs and then..I just don't know what happened to me!!!:banghead: I know it sounds kind of lame and if you wanna lose it for good you have to keep at it, but something in me fizzles out...hopin 4th time's the charm..diet control starts from this moment, will start exercising from tomorrow (just got my hair straightened so been told not to sweat too much for a day)..anyone has advice on breaking the motivation barrier effectively?

I had the exact same problem. I'll stick to a lame diet about a week or 2 then just stop. I am lacking in the self-motivation area I guess.

Just trying to help- from Trudy the Trainer...

My life in a nutshell involved watching my mom balloon to a US size 28, so I was surrounded by the emotional breakdowns and yo yo dieting. She died young of an obesity related heart failure so I have made it my lifes mission to help as many people as I can lose weight permanently.
THe first obstacle is to find out what your first obstacle is ! Seriously what is is that is holding you back...from the brief paragraph I would say that you need to stop dieting and just start eating healthy foods. Depravation, calorie counting and starvation dont work. THey may temporarily but not in the long term. GO back to basics. Stop eating any processed foods. Here are 6 top tips that I guarantee that if implemented not only will you lose weight but keep it off:
1) Set yourself up for success- First of all, get into the right FRAME OF MIND. Have a think about your personal driving force – or why it is that you want to do this? What is going to be your biggest motivator for losing that excess body fat? write it down and put it on the Fridge.
2) Find a support group at work and home. Also, have friends that will encourage you, not sabotage you. Surround yourself with people that care about you achieving what you want.
3) Eliminate White Carbohydrates - They are simply empty calories. For this reason, exclude white rice, pasta, mash potato, or white bread.Try spelt or sprouted grain bread and have a Maximum of 2 pieces of bread per day
4)Eat real food, not processed food! The golden rule is anything that was around 100 years ago could classify as real food – these are foods with the least amount of packaging and additives. A good trick is to avoid the middle aisles of the supermarket. Stick to the boundaries – i.e. fruit, vegetables, meats, milks, etc. – the rest is just chemical filled, over processed, and over marketed
5) Decrease your sugar intake -The golden rule is to select brands with the least sugar added, and with the most fiber and protein. Substitute with Agave nectar or Stevia (100%) not artificial sweeteners these cause spikes in insulin and can often make you hungry!
6) have a Cheat meal every week. If you eat as listed above 85% of the time you will still lose the weight and you wont feel like you are on a diet. It's a lifestyle. Not a quick fix, so grab that Chocolate bar and enjoy it (just once or twice a week though...I recommend once a week until you have reached your goal and then twice to maintain)
Let me know how you go!:grouphug:
