Hey team
I'm a bit skeptical of how a forum can help me achieve my weight loss goals but I'm going to give it a try anyway...
I'm 20 years old, from NZ, and have 10 kgs to lose. My BMI result is 'over weight' :( I really struggle with eating well... I binge eat probably every day. I find it hard to break this habit and have tried countless times to diet and lose weight. This time I thought I might try get some support, to keep me going. I'm too embarrassed to ask my friends, and it doesn't help that they are all quite slim. Any helpful tips.... ways to curb cravings... any diets that have worked for you...I'd be grateful to hear them. It's so hard putting theory into practice for weight loss.... My goal weight is 60kgs (which is reasonable for my height).

Have a happy day all, and good luck with your healthy eating :)

Hey, welcome to the community. :)

How can the forum help? Well, you really get out what you put in. If you want a support network, I'd suggest visiting some of the journals of regulars around here and introducing yourself. While doing so, also start yourself a journal. There you can log your trials and tribulations, meet new people, build accountability, etc.

If you're looking for information, I definitely suggest reading the stickies found at the tops of the various sub-forums. The Words of Wisdom thread has a great place to start.

It seems as if your problem stems from your relationship with food. Knowing this, I think it's important to control your focus; you need to focus on the cause and not the effect.

The effect is your excess fat. You can't do a thing about that until you work on the cause, which is your relationship with food.

I also think it's critical to identify what motivates you to make the decisions you make. Why do you typically resort to food for comfort? When do you do this? How do you feel before doing so? How do you feel after doing so?

I could ramble on quite a bit on this subject, but I can't suggest strongly enough you pick up a copy of Gillian Riley's book, "Eating Less: Say Goodbye to Overeating".

Steve is absolutely right! Food can be an addiction in the same way that drugs and alcohol can be. It sounds like you are addicted to using food as a coping mechanism and I really think you need to figure out what's going on in your life that is causing this. I think once you deal with the emotional issues that are causing you to binge eat daily, you'll be a lot more successful in your weight loss efforts. :)
