Hello, I'm Becky from north eastern Indiana. Recently I had a health scare that made me ralize life is short and you have to take care of you each and every day. I weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 280 pounds. I have a high insulin level and no metabolism to speak of.

When I was 18 I was gorgeous. 5 ft. 6 inches tall about 120 pounds or so. I quit dancing which meant I wasn't active. the most exercise I got was walking around the house. Quickly I began to put on weight and until I reached 180 pounds I never noticed the weight. Then no matter if I ate or not the weight kept coming. Here I am going on 30 and I hate how I look. I can't believe my boyfriend even can stand to look at me. I want to change and I know it won't be easy. By this time next year I hope to be down to 145 pounds.

Hi Becky- I have a few thoughts for you.

I had VERY similar goals as you when I started. I too was thinking how can my husband stand to look at me, I'm gross.. blah blah blah. But quickly I realized that my body is magnificent. And I won't lie to you. Yes my husband is enjoying my body more now. But he doesn't treat me differently. And he never picked on me as he watched me gain weight. Actually never uttered a word. If your boyfriend isn't either, well then I guess it's not your body he loves but you for who your are.

Like I did you do have a long way to go. Practically half your weight will shed. So you need to start thinking positively otherwise you'll sabotage your goals.

Many people on here are so supportive and I couldn't have done it with out this and other support groups I have.. get some and start a diary on here it helps. Take pics of yourself! Face the truth!! And get on the scale!!! "In the neighborhood" is not facing the facts! It will hurt but knowledge is power (that's so corny but true).

Good luck.. like me and many others who have you too can do it!
:)

hello Ashanta. I am glad that I have found someone like myself. my boyfriend certainly seems to love the me inside this body which is good. He is very supportive and for that I am glad. I wanted to note the reason I said in the neighborhood of 280 is because my home scale says 274. the scales at the gym say 281 and the one at the doctor's office says 278, so I was going with a generalization. I can't seen to find a properly balanced scale to get an acurate count.

I started a diary type thing here at my home to keep track and I will certainly be doing photos of before and after and every step along the way. I just have to keep motivated but I think with such a great support system here It might be easier than I thought.

I know what you mean about the scale! I have a health-o-meter regular dial scale and an electronic tanita body comp scale just to make sure!!

Whenever I lose track I click on the before-and-after pictures forums.. then get my motivation right back. The process of losing weight sucks!
