New Year, new habits, new body :)

Hello and happy new year everyone!!!

I'm very excited to be joining this community and hopefully getting motivation from others going through the same experience.

So let me tell you a little about myself, I'm 20 years old and have always been a bit "big boned", (I'm 5'6' and I've weight anywhere between 145-190lbs). Last year was particularly stressful for me, and being an emotional eater I ballooned up to 186lbs, which is my starting weight for this plan.

Since I've tried a whole bunch of diets before and they've all yo-yo-ed back eventually, I"m trying something else this time...this is my plan:

1. Lose 5lbs a month the year...this means my final goal weight is 126lbs, that might be a bit to skinny, but we'll see how I feel as i approach this goal.

2. Do yoga every weekday morning before going to school. I've done this for this entire week and it's actually helped me with the pain I have in my back from standing at work. (I work in a book store, so there's really no sitting down for an 8 hour shift)

3. Try to fit in cardio into my schedule at 3 times a week.

4. Switch my coffee habits to green tea! Much healthier!

5. In terms of eating, restricting certain items has always failed and caused a re-bound in the worst ways. So this time nothing is off the table, it's just the portions that are getting smaller. If i'm craving chocolate or anything I will have a bit :).

6. Log my progress: in an food journal (with calorie counts if possible), on this forum and through pictures and measurements.

7. Do not punish myself or get discouraged if I slip up, I will treat each day as a new and separate opportunity to reach my goals.

So it's been a week since i started this plan and the scale already says 3lbs less. I know there will be set backs along the way but that should not take my eyes of the goal.

EVERYONE STARTING A PLAN IN 2008, LETS HELP EACH OTHER OUT!

Hi :)
Sounds like you have a good plan there. Point 5 is particularly important in my opinion. It's taken me a while to learn that but I think it's really important to let yourself eat a little of what you crave now and again and not restrict too much.
Good luck!

Your plan seems doable and realistic. I too have had failures with "diet" plans. I joined this forum in August of last year and track my calories in a log as well as keep a diary/journal. Many have had success with usuing FITDAY.com as a means to estrablish a caloric intake and track the foods eaten. (i use a similiar program thru Self magazine). Staying on top of the amount of calories has helped me to lose the @15 I have so far, and I have not felt deprived or like I have failed in some way if I did not have a loss in one particular week. This is key to prevent yo-yoing, in my book.

Good Luck!

Welcome to the forum. Your height and weight are very similar to mine: 5'6 and 182 pounds. Your goal weight is also the same as mine-125 pounds lol. Anyways goodluck with your plan and feel free to ask any questions...there are many experts around here to help you.

thanks everyone! great to know there's other people in the same boat as me.
I've also started a weight loss diary, though it seems to not be leading to any replies from anyone, but whatever...as long as the weight comes off it's all good.

Hey, welcome to the forums!

Me and you are only a pound apart in our starting weight. Hopefully we can meet our weight goals too! :D

Great plan, should yield great results.

However, some input from me take it for what its worth.
-You didn't list water, make sure to keep yourself hydrated. Up your water intake as it will help reduce your hunger throughout the day.
-I would add light weight training as muscle is a huge part of your metabolism. The reason many dieters end up failing and gaining all the weight back and then some is due to muscle loss during the dieting period. A big part of your metabolism is made up of muscle. Adding weight training not only helps you tone up, it increases the amount of calories your body burns while doing nothing. A huge advantage in the battle against weight loss!

Best of luck to you bakaralu!

Hello and happy new year everyone!!!

4. Switch my coffee habits to green tea! Much healthier!

I've had green tea every day for the last year or so. It's great; good choice.

You've come up with a great plan, I hope to hear about results from you in the future!

i'm really glad i've switched to green tea, it not only helps suppress my appetite, it also doesn't have that rollercoaster effect of tiredness that coffee gives me :)

I have been keeping hydrated, though i forgot to mention it in the plan, in total i usually drink about a litre and a half of water per day (don't know how much that is in gallons or ounces but there's 3.7 litres per gallons)

I know about losing the muscle weight, but I don't want to push myself into to many different workouts at once, i'm hoping to easy into new habits, so hopefully i will be ready to start some weight training in a month or two.
