new to working out

i am about 5'9 height.. and i weight 145 pounds
20 years old female

i just joined the gym today and my plan is to have more energy, get toned and strength my knee because its weak from dislocation (been few years but still need to work on it)

my question is.. what should be my schedule for a beginner? and how can i work my way up? i did an hour workout today including cycling, treadmill, walking, arms&legs workout..

i want to lose around 10 pounds and then remain my weight..

also how long and often i should go?

That is a hard question to answer, because it's so individual.

I would start at 3 days a week. If you are in pain, don't work out that day. Listen to your body. That whole, "No pain, no gain" thing is BS. It should be, "No sweat, no gain" or something because pain is your bodies way of telling you it's too much, too fast, and to take it easy. If you find that 3 workouts a week are fine and you aren't in pain and aren't too tired, then start adding a workout up to 5 or 6 days a week. You should have one day that is a solid rest day, though. And alternate what you do so that you aren't doing the same thing every day (except for walking) because otherwise you could get an overuse injury.
