Technically have been here a year but forgot about the site just as soon as I signed up.
Bit about myself:
So the past couple months I have been traveling through the United States by myself in what I will call an extended road trip, Been to about 7 National Parks, a few family member houses I don't get to see often, and a bunch of other places.

I digress,

in my wanderings I have much time about contemplating my life and so forth, As such I have more or less one month before I go back home and I want to not only look but feel better, live longer and overall have a happy life, that is what we all want, is it not?

The Details:
I have been heavy ALL my life. I am currently 6 foot 4 and around 400 pounds. I am very much built like a tank or football player body frame and all. I know I am never going to be skinny, or "small" but that should not stop me from living healthy and feeling great.

So I figured if anything this site would give me support that I need, because I have not had the fortitude to change my lifestyle for the better. Message me!

Welcome Lorax.

You can do whatever you want to do . You probably just need to commit, educate yourself a bit and as far as this site goes, start a diary and be regular with it.

Its also a good idea to read up on some other diaries for tips and make friends etc.

I guess you are a guy if you are 6 4.

I can't see any reason why you can't be slim and atheltic. Its possible for absolutely everyone. People just have to be willing to eat differently and be more active.

oh my book stops at 6 foot 3 inches so i can't tell you what your healthy weight range is. I suggest you start by finding out what that is for you height and putting your goal somewhere firmly in hte middle. The top end won't satisfy you. I been there - its still fat, even though its healthy and not technically overweight.

Make all junk food a tiny part of your diet or not at all.

Understand your weaknesses and figure out a way to deal with them. Mine is sugar food so i've quit it and i aim to do this forever. Most people wouldn't go as far as this but that's because they think they eat in moderation. I am hopeless iwth moderation.

Eat mostly low calorie foods that.

Counting calories until you understand how to eat the right amount of food and the right types of food properly. So that its almost second nature.

Very cool

So I'm guessing from your post you have had experience in actually helping people? Or is it your personal experience.

I know I could be slim but I mean physically my frame is large so small is kind of out it. I will say my biggest problem is eating entirely too much like at a certain time of day and only having that for the whole day. I've been working at a restaurant for awhile before my trip and Id eat a small lunch and gigantic dinner around 9 at night and not doing a whole lot with my in between time.

I appreciate the reply! And I do hope to be both more active in my life and in this site.

Lorax have you tried mixing what I'm assuming is a love for traveling in with exercise?
You can use hikes (backpacking), runs, biking, etc. You probably already know this or have done this but I think the best thing is to combine special interests with something that can seem to be hard work.

What you've done sounds exciting and you've definitely seen more of the world than I have so far. How fun!

Realistically and safely, according to your stats, you can lose 4lbs a week with a healthy diet.

Like fortyfour said it's a good idea to start a diary. That way, you can express yourself freely on the happy times and the tough times regarding your journey and also get advice and motivation from everyone on the site. We'll be here to support you!

No i'm not a professional. I am talking from my own experience. I have a an excellent diet book though and learning about good nutrition and healthy ways to lose weight, has helped me heaps. Plus i am 47 so i have a broad experience in life and i've been working through my own weight loss issues throughout my life.

I am currently in my healthy weight range. I've been up to 74kg and not sure how low i've been but pretty small in the past. I've been on fad diets and good diets. I've counted calories and just gone with well balanced meals and this is what i like doing hte best but i still keep an awareness of calories. I also exercise moderately.

My father is a big man. He's 6.1 and broad in build. I've never seen him skinny. I don't think he's ever been skinny but but he used to be athletic.

When i say everyone can be skinny or athletic its on the basis that it is humanly possible. All you have to contemplate is what happens to people who are forced into starvation around the world. The difference between your being skinny or heavier is all about your own choices with regard to how much you want ot weigh and how muscly you want to be. If you want to be muscly, you won't be skinny at the same time. But anyone can be lean. I don't care how big their bones are. Its really got nothing to do with how big your bones are.

I am not fine boned but i've been pretty skinny in my time on occasion. So much so that my ribs show. But if you were to see me today, you would find it hard to imagine me that way. In fact people have been shocked at how skinny i've actually been when i have been skinny because my head/face and broad shoulders suggests I wouldn't be. That is shocked when they see me without my shirt.

But if you are muscly you are can still carry very low fat, especially men who tend to less fat than women anyway.

Not long ago i reconnected with a past boyfriend. I was shocked by his appearance after 20 years. He was always very skinny when i knew him. He was over six foot too. And now he is all beefy looking. Not fat but filled out.

My brother in law is 6 feet 3. He is very skinny and has been ever since i've known him. But you know, he doesn't eat very much and he's quite active. I can easily eat more than him. I tell him. John you have to eat more. But he just seems to be unable to do it.
