Hi,
I just joined this forum. I recently realized that I need to lose a bit of weight, and thought it would be nice to have a place to come to see others doing the same!
I really don't know much about "dieting," to be honest. To this point, I'd stayed naturally slim all my life. I'd watch the scale every few weeks or so, basically just shooting to stay in a range of 50-55 kg, and whenever I noticed it was getting toward the top, I'd just cut back on desserts and snack foods for a bit and be done with it!
However, in the past few years, I have graduated from university and gotten married and moved, and my lifestyle has totally changed!
Before, I really had no problem with not eating too much because I was on my own, didn't like cooking, and basically I could what whatever and whenever I liked. My eating habits were maybe slightly erratic, but I paid enough attention to keep a balanced diet overall and was basically eating just how and what I wanted, never deprived myself of anything. I also had lots of free time for working out, which I enjoy. So all in all I stayed quite fit and healthy.
But now, it's not that easy. My wonderful husband is also a wonderful cook, and for the first time in my life, I'm now often eating three serious meals a day. That should be fine obviously...except I've been eating the same sort of portions that I always had done, which seems equivalent but is very different. When I was by myself, meals were very simple foods, literally like one ingredient sort of foods, and maybe two of them put togther (for example, grilled plain chicken breasts and a couple apples, something like that). But now, meals are much more complicated and rich (and delicious, lol), so eating the same amount of food I'm used to equals a lot more calories. Also, it doesn't allow for snacking like I'm used to. If something catches my eye, I used to always eat it, and adjust the rest of my food accordingly, or if it turned into a very large snack, just call it a meal. But now, all those snacks are just extras on top of whatever we eat together, and again, it's just too much! On top of all that, I have not been exercising so much as I used to. I no longer have easy access to a gym or so many hours of the day of free time.
All that to say, my husband recently bought a scale for himself actually, but I went ahead and stepped on it, after almost a year of not weighing myself.....and it was nearly 67 kg! I was very surprised....I buy new clothes often enough that I didn't notice old ones getting too tight I guess, and having a man that loves you and always thinks you look great makes you not notice yourself changing, I guess, too.
So, I guess my hopeful goal is losing about 15 kg over the next half year(?) or so. Like I said, I don't know any of the diet strategies, but at least I'm going to get some information and make it work somehow, hopefully use the forum as a resource. If anyone has any beginner advice, I'd appreciate it!
