Hey all!

So Iam new to this forum and also new to the whole body building working out routine. To make a long story short Iam not out of shape but not in shape.Dont have a nice body or anything (like no muscle def tone ect) I was wondering if someone can dedicate some time to my thread and teach me about working out and what I should do.
For the record iam 17 years old weigh bout 165 ish and about 5"10".

I play sports and right now Iam trying hard to get faster and be more athletic so i can last longer So hopefully this will help me out a bit and also help me threatend the assholes who date my younger sister :) ..

So basiclly If someone can help me put a routine that over the course of time will get me into a better body (note right now getting cut is not my concern.I want to get big or well just get some muscle and get stronger then I will cut)And also TEACH ME because I dont know anything about lifting or anything in general about machines or what to do how many times when I should do it ect..

So any help would rule!

Thanks alot look forward to some responce.

Also I foregot to put my current diett.I dont eat bad but I dont eat good. But Ive seen all these diets people are on and I dont think I will be able to tune myself to it.SO as far as diet goes Iam going to be cutting candy (dont eat alot of anyways) soda (again not alot) and just junk wich is usually not alot.So Again thanks for help

read through the site. read the weightlifting 101 sticky in the weight lifting forum.

read the diet stickies

read the links in my post.

and keep in mind, diet is probably the most important aspect of training. no amount of training will add a lot of muscle if your diet isn't adequate. being in school will make it harder, but if you really wanna see results, you really gotta put more effort into it.

Take a look at the Rippetoe's "Starting Strength" routine. This one is ideal for beginners:

As soon as you stop seeing results from that program (which should take a couple months or so), start on Bill Starr/Madcow 5x5 Intermediate program:

MORE IMPORTANTLY, (and as mentioned in the above post), your diet is absolutely crucial. Unless you're genetically gifted and can eat virtually ANYTHING that none of your progress is hindered (which is rare), then eat cleanly. Study up on nutrition and read through the stickies.

I disagree thoroughly. Emphasis on eating clean and trying to stay lean got me about 4 years stuck at the same weight.

If you're small and want to gain size, eat. Eat lots. Eat hamburgers, eat pizza, eat donuts. Get your protein and essential fats, the rest is a function of calories.

You will gain fat. *THIS IS UNAVOIDABLE UNLESS YOU HAVE THE GENES FOR IT* It's a necessary part of getting bigger; if you cannot handle this, then don't expect to get big.

Quick question...if this turns into a crazy discussion, I'm gonna feel like a loser for not making a new thread, but oh well. The original poster of this topic can probably benefit from this info.

Are the same amount of calories necessary for myofibril hypertrophy as sarcoplasmic hypertrophy? I ask this because many who are bulking pursue the latter rather the former.

Firstly, it's all but pointless to differentiate the two to that degree. You'll never see either occur in isolation, and barring certain instances (drugs) you'll never see sarcoplasmic occur to any appreciable degree anyway.

Secondly, just to answer the hypothetical, myofibrillar would be the more calorie intensive of the two. Protein synthesis is very costly metabolically, especially so the more you add due to the inhibitory systems.

hey all.

Iam actually kinda big.not really.Iam not skinny I have some meat on me.I jsut want to get bigger as in muscle not fat.I dont want to be a big ball.I want to have big arms broad shoulders ect.

so what should I do?

You can't just eat everything ever, either. I know that's what worked for you, Dilly but I've seen people just getting into their training think that way and then explode in a BAD way. You just may have a body type that was hard to get to gain weight.

For 95% of the people out there, eating right is the only way they're going to accomplish any real goals. For you and a few others, your bodies are different and need to be BOMBARDED with food. This isn't good advice to hand out en mass, however.

That is a big question. As malcore said "read the diet stickies, read the weightlifting 101 sticky in the weight lifting forum and read the posts, do your research! You can't expect everyone else to do your research for you. The wonderfull thing about the internet is that all you have to do is punch in key words "beginning weight training" or "beginning bodybuilding" and "poof" tons of information (it's not just for porn!)!
People will be happy to answer your questions if they are more specific (not "tell me everything I need to know"). But if you haven't lifted a finger or bothered to even browse the site or educate yourself, no one else will take the time for you. Good luck!
