Hello everyone!

I have just joined this forum and I'm trying to navigate my way around. Not quite sure what the etiquette is here but I am hoping to find lots of help and support on my quest to finally reach my target weight!

I have yo-yo'd between 140lbs and 280lbs and various amounts in between for the last 18 years but never quite reaching my elusive target weight of 133lbs!! I currently tip the scales at 170lbs and I am hoping that this will finally be my road to success.

Having tried various diets, programmes, pills and potions I am now sticking to healthy eating and regular exercise and hope that common sense will get me there.

I would love to hear any stories from anyone else in a similar situation, and I hope that I will be able to offer some support to you too!

I look forward to sharing with you...

Louise

Ps. The rain is pouring down here, hope the sun is shining wherever you are! :)

Hi Louise and welcome.

I'm like you - I spent years trying all the fad diets. I lost weight, gained weight, gave up, started again. Every year on New Year's I made resolutions that I'd lose weight and then I'd give up within a couple of weeks.

When I finally decided to quit dieting and really changed the way I thought about food, everything changed for me. I hope it works the same for you - because it's an amazing thing! :)

Hope to see you around posting more!

Hi Kara,

Thanks for your message.

That's very encouraging to hear that you have overcome the obstacles that you have always faced-gives me hope! Have you reached your target weight now or are you still losing at the moment?

So how did you change your mindset? Was it through external help or a book you read etc?

My biggest struggle is sticking to the eating plan, I know what I need to do, I know how to do it, it just seems like a daily battle to stay on track.

All the best,

Louise

Welcome!
I am sort of a newbie on this forum also. Just recently came back. I know the struggle you have. I am in the same situation. Except I fluxuate between 265-330. I have seen a lot of great information on this site and their are a few good people too. lol.

Last August I weighed 267. Over the last year I have shot all the way up to 333. If you let stress get to you, it becomes unforgiving.

Don't eat with your heart, Eat with your brain.

Good luck on your path. We are here to help.

Hey Louise.

I honestly can't tell you when or how I changed my mindset. There wasn't one just "bing" lightbulb moment for me. I think it was more of a general realization.

I think a big part of it for me was a growing awareness of where my food came from and how much of my food contained chemicals, preservatives, added sweetners, added sodium, etc. I actually began eating healthier FIRST and it led to losing weight.

For me, eating REAL food has become a very important part of my life. Don't get me wrong, I sill count calories, because it's easy to eat too much "real" food as well. :) But I really do try to avoid packaged and processed food as much as possible. I eat a lot of lean meat, whole grains, veggies and fruits.

I will say that once I changed the way I thought about food, it became less hard to keep on track. I honestly don't crave junk the way I used to. The only thing that is a problem food for me are potato chips and I just don't buy them. Anything else ... after I realized what was in it, and after I started making my own healthy versions of some of my favorite foods ... I just couldn't stomach the junk any more.

I've lost a little over 70 lbs and I'm really wanting to lose around 30-35 more. I'm slowly getting back into "losing" mode, after maintaining for over a year.

There's a lot of information about my journey in the first post on my diary - I updated it a few weeks ago.

Hope that helps you some! :)

Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for your replies and words of encouragement. I can see how much these forums can help in showing you how many people out there who are struggling in the same way as I am.

I too am trying to concentrate on healthy eating as opposed to a diet as such. I will certainly check out your diary Kara for some words of wisdom! :)

All the best,

Louise
