Hello all,

I'm Jay, I'm a 25 year old student.

I was a 3 sport athlete, playing football, hockey, and lacrosse. After high school I got lazy, and learned all about drinking and the party life style. I got nice and fat, and when I say fat I mean FAT!

I had a big wake up call in April 2009, while looking at photo's from my brothers wedding. I weighed about 285 pounds back then, and was very out of shape. The photo that really woke me up, was looking at me speaking into a microphone, and noticing that I didn't have a neck, I looked like a head, that went right to my body, and my body looked like a bowling ball. I knew something had to be done, so roughly May 15th of 2009 I began a work out regiment. As of September 15th of 2009 I was 220 pounds. Many people say that is quite a feat, however I still wasn't satisfied. I continued to work out, and managed to get down to a light 175 pounds, but noticed something was missing. I used to check my body fat, and it said I was about 195 pounds of lean weight, however while losing all my fat, I lost a lot of muscle tissue as well.

So here I am, starting the new year with a new fitness routine. It is as follows

Sunday- Circuit Train (3 sets of 15 push ups, crunches, curls (15lbs), tri throwbacks 15 lbs, lunges 25lbs, leg lifts)
Monday- Lift (total body)
Tuesday- Swim 2500-3000 yards
Wednesday- Lift Total Body
Thursday- Swim 2500-3000 yards
Friday- Circuit Train
Saturday- Off (until summer lacrosse starts)

My "body stats" as of this morning were

5'10"
179 pounds
14.5% body fat

My goals are:

5'10
165lbs
10% body fat.

I'd like to add some significant muscle while cutting away from the fat that is currently on my body. Right now I'm just "skinny fat" and really dont like the way my body looks. I want to be muscular again like I was when I was an athlete, and the only way to do that is hit the gym.

I hope you guys may have some advice for me, and maybe somebody will provide me with a cool story or something to read.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

That's quite a weight loss story. At 179# and 14.5% body fat you wouldn't be adding significant muscle than you would be at 165# and 10% body fat. Good luck with your goals.

I worded that kinda poorly. I would like to make my muscle more defined at 165lbs and 10% or less body fat. I have a very "average" body right now, and I want to have an extraordinary body in about 6 months from now (beach season)

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I have been reading around the site, a lot of great info here.

To start make sure you are eating the right food, lean protein (fish, chicken) complex carbs and healthy fats. You may want to consider weight lifting in your routine. If you want muscle definition go for lighter weights and higher reps. I shoot for a weight that lets me complete 10 to 12 reps.If you want to gain some muscle size then heavier weights and lower reps. Shoot for a weight that you can only do 6 to 8 reps.
Good luck with your goals.

I am new to this forum and I am here because I want to get some tips on health and fitness and I also want to share my experiences on it.
