new to fitness, want to succeed

hi all, im 22 years old and gave birth to my second child 12 days ago, this has left me with a bit of extra weight and most noticeably a mum tum, which i want to get rid of and tone up all over. im looking some good advice on how to start and keep motivated. thanks in advance.

Your going to need to do a cut for now (getting your bod fat % down). The main way to do this is to keep your calories low but not below 1500. Try to go to the gym 3x a week with a mixture of weights and cardio. For cardio you only need to do 45mins twice a week :)

Best of luck and welcome to the forum

Find exercises you enjoy and that you find are fun and ensure you stay motivated. Hope you have success in reaching your goals :)

Congratulations on the birth of your first child -- how marvelous! I have two kids myself, and I am a personal trainer, so I have lots of advice to offer, although I really recommend that you speak to your doctor!!

I have to respectfully disagree with the previous posters. The first thing is to take it easy on yourself. You just gave birth!! Your body has been through a tremendous stress and your hormones are going wild. Give it time. Enjoy these first few weeks with your newborn and don't start thinking about losing anything for at least 6 weeks -- you really need time to recover. For now, focus on getting enough rest, eating the most nutriontally-dense food that you can, and moving when you can. Take the baby for a stroll or do some stretching to shake off the aches. Once your body has had a chance to recover from the shock of birth, then you can start cutting calories or doing intense activities. But don't rush it, because really there is no hurry.

The best advice for new mothers is to breastfeed if you can. This is nature's way of taking care of the weight for you. With both of my children I didn't have to workout to drop below my pre-pregnancy weight simply by breastfeeding. It took about 6 months with each, and it was so easy.

You'll be fine! Welcome to the forum! I encourage you to read about healthy ways to maintain your weight so that you have good advice to follow when your body is ready to take it on.

Best wishes!
Krista
