*New to Board* Computer Guy

Hello all,

I am new to these forums but reading a lot of the stories I feel obligated to share mine as well.

I have always been big. I was born a 10lbs 6oz baby 30 years ago. Ever since then I have always been bigger then I should be. I think I was 200lbs in 6th grade and standing a whopping 5'3." As I grew up into the high school years I was about 300lbs my junior year and about 5'6" when a devastating football injury destroyed my ankle to the point of replacement with Titanium and Teflon. I swelled another 25lbs when I graduated high school at 5'6" and 325lbs.

In the 2 years that followed I grew from 5'6" to 6'5" and retained my weight. I looked a little slimmer and thought to myself maybe this is why I was soo fat all those years to fit into my new body. I worked at UPS nights after college for the money and the insurance. During these days though, I ate what I wanted and drank every friday with the guys. In 1999, I finished my college life and went to work at a company as a computer technician and have since become a Network Administrator.

Within the last year, I have had chronic ankle pain to the point where it hurt to walk. The pain would come and go, but it was severe. 5 weeks and 3 days ago, I went into the doctor to see what was going on. I then found out that I have cartilage damage on the rotating bone that helps your foot rotate up and down. Doctor said it that my weight wasn't really helping it.

This doctor's visit was my catalyst. When the nurse went to weigh me they could not. The sliding weight scale they had did not go above 350lbs. I could not believe I weighed soo much. So after having to use a "special" scale at the hospital, I found I weighed in at 368lbs. I was astounded.

The very next day, I stopped drinking soda. I only drink water and Ice Tea now. I picked up fruits and vegetables, lean cuisine meals for my supper, fibre cereals, light yogurts and string cheese. I started membership at gym that my company owns, and have been using the treadmill (currently doing 3miles a day @ 4mph) and attending core fitness classes on tuesday and thursdays.

I am happy to report that in 5 weeks and 3 days I am down to 340lbs even for a net loss of 28lbs. Looking at these stories on this board, I am very motivated to keep going, and look forward to sharing my story and reading all of yours.

Thanks to everyone for everything you have been posting.

are you using any kind of program like to record your calories, because they seem awfully low to me...

and the busy body in me says move on from the lean cuisines -they are so processed and sodium filled - and not healthy in the long run, you're better off doing some simple cooking - you'll get more for your calorie buck and better taste as well

welcome to the forum - glad to have you here

Welcome! :)

You are doing a great job and it sounds like you are off to a good start!

You are making healthy strides and eating right. Whole food choices are the best. My husband and I started off with Lean Cuisines when we began too (used for lunches at work), but now we pack leftovers from dinner. I learned that the LC meals were higher in sodium than I wanted in my daily diet and I changed some things. I don't want to discourage you from using what works for you, just sharing what we did and how it worked for us.

I am looking forward to reading more about your progress and offer support as you meet your goals!

Beth

Welcome aboard!! Always nice to have someone newer than yourself around!! Great job on the recent weight loss as well.

Hey,

Welcome to WLF. This place is awesome! You are off to a great start but I would take Mal's advice about those frozen meals... they really seem much healthier than they are. At the very least I would work on weaning myself off of them. If its all you can do for now that's fine... i'm not telling you you have to stop eating them.

Good luck on your journey
~Jenna

Welcome! You are going to have a lot of fun here while you get into shape. Good for you for making the decision to lose weight. Congrats on the impressive weight loss so far, and keep up the good work! We are here for you, and if you want to join my harem, just let me know! I always have room for a tall, fellow Midwesterner:jump:

What's up man,

Great to see a new face, and good work on finding somewhere to talk about what you are doing.

Are you only doing cardio for your workouts? Have you thought about resistance training at all? Is that what is in the core class?

What kind of calories are you putting down per day; I didn't see a number?
Make sure you are getting high protein in the diet as well...it is easy to not get enough when you are filling up with veggies all the time.

I'll check in now and then, and give you yet another cheerleader

Questions Questions Questions... lol.

Ok I will bite and answer what you all asked.

Maleficent, Bethann1156, Boam46, and Chef, to answer your questions about menu selection and diet, this is what I ate yesterday:

Out of the shower: I take a centrum Complete Multi-Vitamen.

Breakfast: Banana and a large glass of fresh brewed Ice Tea.

Mid-Morning Snack: Kohlrabi slices (About 12)

Lunch: Grilled Cheese Sandwich - Rye bread with American Cheese, and a cup of stuffed green pepper soup. Iced Tea.

After the gym: I ate a Bosc Pear and 2 liters of water.

Supper: Home Made Stuffed green peppers (I made 5 small-medium sized peppers, with lean hamburger, rice, and salt-free crackers.) 5 because, I am going to eat them over the week. strawberry-orange-banana crystal light.

Late night Snack: Kettle Corn style popcorn 100cal bag.

Been trying to eat a little more frequently with smaller portions, cuz I hear it keeps the "oven" burning. I used to eat maybe 2 meals a day and I would ove-eat on both of them. Eating this way, I do not feel hungry, and I *think* it's a better route to go.

Re: Exercise

I do cardio because I didn't have the stamina to do much of anything else so I thought it would be a good place to start. I am confident at this point to take your suggestion, Chef, and start a resistance program I have one kinda light workout I will be starting and adjust it if it's too easy for me. It sums up as this:

Sets = 1
Repetitions = 10-15

Exercise: squat with no weights
Body Part: front/back of upper legs and buttocks
Exercise: flat, chest press machine
Body Part: overall chest
Exercise: seated low row machine
Body Part: middle and upper back
Exercise: seated shoulder press machine
Body Part: front and middle of shoulders
Exercise: crunches, lying on floor w/ back flat
Body Part: Abdominals
Exercise: seated lower back building machine
Body Part: Lower back

The Core Fitness Class has minimal weights and uses the exercise ball. It's mostly things like lunges, squats, ball tranfers, leg lifts, stretching, crunches. I like the class, but I struggle because of my size in it at the moment. /sigh lol

And last but not least, Bikinibound.....

Thanks for the compliment on the name, and look forward to your comments! As for the harem, what are the benefits and is it a flex job? lol

Stopping in to say good morning! Your food choices yesterday look great!!! The class sound challenging and well rounded in combination with your cardio! Have a great day! :)

The benefits? :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Well, there's the prestige of being in it--all the hot guys are..lmbo..you'd be an official Harem Hottie. And you wouldn't need to quit your day job--it's very flexible (as am I:jump: ).

I just now read your diary! Congrats on your weight loss so far, I agree with everyone about the lean cuisines. I ate them to begin with, but they are a waste of calories. Cook you a good meal! =]

Also, try eating a little more. Starving yourself isn't going to help you! If you loose weight that way, you will just put it right back on. Remember, you didn't gain everything in a week and you can't loose it that way either.

Once again, congrats on your progress so far- and good luck on loosing more. =] I hope to see you stick around, and talk to you as you progress!

Be very careful with this one... she's quite evil and devious... but you gotta love her its the charm:hug2:

Being in the Harem is awesome! Its quite a prestigious deal:)

Before you know it you won't be struggling in the core fitness class... just stick with it and it'll get easier a little at a time... one step at a time:)

Being in the Harem is awesome! Its quite a prestigious deal:) That's right. It will make your life so much more interesting--unless you hate flirting.

So my little heretic--are you ready to burn at the stake?:rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Congrats on the loss of the first 28lbs.
I've heard that eating smaller portions and more often is a good thing too, but I haven't managed to keep a regular eating schedule going like that.

It seems easier for me to over-eat if I'm eating smaller portions but more often.

Welcome to the forums and good luck! We're all here to help each other.

LoL, you sound like my Ex-Gf, but a Heretic I am.

And no I don't mind the flirting.

I doubt I'm like your ex-gf! Why do you think so? She couldn't be nearly as witty and naughty as I am. Anyway, I guess you're in the harem, then...as long as you behave yourself! :rotflmao: Btw, are you a badger fan?
