New scale vs. old scale

Hi everyone,

So last week I went out and bought a new scale. I was using a Homedics brand scale that I have had for 5 or so years that is just the normal type of scale (the kind with the needle that spins clockwise when you step on it). Now I have a digital one that i got at Kmart made by a company called Produex. It also measures body fat, water, and muscle.

But anyway, when I got the new scale it weighed me 2 or 3 lbs less then the old one, and now the new one is weighing me about 5 lbs lower then the old one. I was 218 on the old one and 213.4 on the new one this morning. It has been consistantly like this all week where I see a decrease when using the new scale but not when using the old one (or very little).

I was just wondering if you think there are any problems with this? Or if one of them has a problem is it most likely the old one? I really like the new one because it is easier to read and the 10ths of a pound makes it nice to see even small amounts of progress.

Also, i don't really understand (or neccessarily trust) the bodyfat, water, and muscle measurements that the new one does. The main reason I don't like it is because I don't understand it. All 3 of those measurements are displayed in a %. But if you add all 3 of them together, it always equals approximately 110%. Does anyone have an explination for that? My bodyfat percent is extremely high so I am using this to kind of monitor progress on loosing that even though I know its probably the least accurate way to have bodyfat measured.

Thanks in advance for any input you have.

the only thing i can advise is to pick one scale and keep using it for the rest of the time you'll be on the journey....otherwise checking the two scales will drive you crazy...lol!

i bought my weighing scale about 2 months ago, i remember debating in the store for like an hour if i should take the plain digital scale or the fancy one which calculates body fat and everything then i just opted for the plain digital one because i wasn't sure of how accurate things like body fat measurements would be.

but as by your post, if its the new scale that you like, then by all means choose that one to be using from now henceforth. all the best xoxo
