new personal trainer

I just want some advice from some one that has been in the industry for awhile. I resently got certified through NASM to be a personal trainer . I picked them because they have an online course and I live in a small town right now and wasn't able to go to a location to take the exam. I learned alot and I am happy with the course Any ways even though I passed and am now officially certified I don't really have enough confidence to begin training someone else, partly because I know that I could be in better shape myself. I guess I am just asking for some advice from someone who has been in the same shoes.

Maximum,
Wait, I thought it was Ryan Lee that you owed your career too? Which, BTW, I checked into him. You are right about his rep... All the right people said all the right things about him. Personally I would put my money on Bill Hartman. I have been inspired and learned more from him than any other trainer in my career. He posts regularly on several subjects here. Read his advice, and you will see what I mean.

As a health club owner who hires a lot of trainers, I would recommend you get certified through NSCA, specificallly the CSCS certification, which you cannot even sit for unless you have a degree. It is the gold standard of the industry. I don't personally have one, but of all the trainers I have hired in the past 10 years they have been the best all around.

You really need to have the confidence in yourself. What type of shape are you in now and where do you think you need to be at to train others?

From there you need to decide if you are going to work for yourself or pay homage to the man.

Either way you need to build a client base and that works best from referrals.

There are a number of ways to do this. You really need to write a plan even simple to see where you want to get to.
