Hey all! :seeya:Im Janell. Im 24 yrs old and gave birth to my first child on Jan. 11, 2011. Im so ecstatic about being a mom and love all the time i get to spend with my son. I am not excited about all the weight i gained during pregnancy. Before I found out i was preggo, I weighed around 145 and I felt great. I was super confident, which is a feeling i miss so much. My last month of pregnancy, I weighed 226 :( Now that 4 months has passed, Im not seeing any progress. I weight 192 and have been stuck here for a while. I have had trouble staying focused on dieting and exercising; I keep thinking bad thoughts about myself and it is just so hard to stay motivated. I know I can do it, I just think I need a little support from others that are going through what I am going through. I dont expect to look like a goddess in a month. I know it will take some time but I would really love to get back down to 140 so i feel sexy and confident again :) thanks for reading and I hope to make some new friends to help guide me in my weight loss endeavors. I really want to feel like myself again! :)

Congrats on the baby!

It's all about the maths for me, ignore all the fads and trendy diets, simply keep an eye on calorie intake. Your body naturally burns a certain amount of calories per day based on your gender/size/age/activity, you can find lots of online calculators telling you what your target calorie limit is each day to maintain the same weight.

Once you've found that, if you can eat 500 less calories every day, you will lose approximately 1lb per week, 1000 cals less and you'll lose 2lb a week and so on.

Just make sure that the calories you do eat are balanced and healthy and spread out during the day to keep your metabolism going and you should lose weight steadily.

Thanks, Im not really into fad dieting. I think the calorie count is the way to go. my problem is is that I dont think I eat enough during the day so maybe my metabolism is a little shot. Im also breastfeeding so at least I know that some extra calories i burn without any effort. I think my biggest thing is trying to fit exercise in. My boyfriend and i are going on walks every night. I just have to find something and stick with it. That has been my biggest problem. staying motivated to exercise everyday :(
BBut im trying to stay positive and do my walk everyday no matter what. gotta stay consistant.

Hi Janell, I am a fitness coach for women with 18+ years experience in the field. I am also a mother of 4..3-girls and 1 boy.(ages 7,6,4, and 18mths). I know exactly how you feel about your body after having kids and what it does to us women. I will help in anyway that I can. I am a big believer in counting calories for weight loss. Don't worry, you will get there :) Let's talk:)

Hiya, I am sort of similar to you because i weigh 5lbs heavier at the moment than you do now, and i want to get down to 140-150lbs. I put the weight on whilst breastfeeding tho lol, it is possible, believe me! And my daughter literally was never off my boobs.

You will feel sexy and confident again! You can do it!!!!!! The way i think of it is that i will be happier with myself once i have lost 40lbs. So, if i average 2lbs weight loss a week, thats 20 weeks, and if i eat 3 meals a day for 20 weeks (140 days), its only 420 meals of eating healthily before we are skinny-ish and more confident in ourselves again.

420 healthy meals=skinnyness. Its that simple. Maybe you could start a diet diary on here, I have found it so helpful to get encouragement and support, and i really feel like i can actually do this- a feeling i haven't had in years. x

Yes exercise is a great way to help with weight loss, essentially you're upping the amount of cals your body uses per day so if you eat the same amount of cals the net result is more lost.

I do find though that if you look at the maths of cal balance that exercise is quite harsh in terms of effort vs cals burnt, for example walking for 1 hour slowly is approx 200 cals burnt depending on your weight, walking briskly is a little more about 300, give or take a little.

Exercise in general is good it keeps you healthy but I find as a weight loss device it's not really a very big payoff, having to walk for 17+ hours to lose 1lb doesn't seem worth it to me. This is purely a personal choice though, I'm naturally very lazy and absolutely hate exercise :)
