Hello...My name is Sarah, I am twenty years old and currently a Junior in college. I weigh 150 lbs, and am 5'3. I want to lose 35-40 lbs. In high school I weighed 113. I have a wonderful boyfriend who doesnt care how much I weigh, and even tells me I am rediculous for wanting to lose 30lbs, but I want to do it for me, I am truly unhappy with myself, I cry everytime I try pants on or look at pictures of myself. I used to have extremely high self esteem, but not so much anymore. I have never really really tried to lose wight because I havent had too but once I lost 20 lbs a few years ago and I didnt even do anything, it just happened one summer, so I think maybe I can lose it pretty easily. I am starting a 5 day workout program. 3 days of weight training for one hour, and 5 days of cardio/aerobics for 45-1hr. I also am going to stop eating out so much, its difficult in college but I am to the point where I am so unhappy with myself, I need to make a change. I have the most beautiful skinny friends and I used to be one of them and I just want to get back to being happy you know? I want to feel amazing in October when I meet my boyfriends family for the first time in Seattle for a wedding. So my goal is to lose 35-40 lbs by October 15th, thats 4 months. I am also taking hydroxycut caffeine free, I have heard good things so hopefully it works... My first day is tommorrow, I am waking up at 6 to go workout, I have a friend who is a personal trainer she said working out before eating breakfast is the best time for me. She has also made me a excercise program. If anyone has any ideas please share!! I need all the deas and support I can get.

You have a great plan for yourself. Just stay Positive and you'll reach your goal in no time. Don't get discourged if one week you don't lose anything. Remember you will be weight training and muscle does add. I'm pretty sure you'll feel just as great with a toned body then what the scale says, right??!!:D Well, have a AWESOME day and drink your WATER:D

I am just not sure about the weight training added weight... i dont wanna get bulky and the personal trainer said i wont its very hard for girls to get bulky, but i wanna lose weight not add it because i am overweigh, so i guess i dont understand how adding weight even if its muscle can be good? Will I still lose fat? I am confused lol.

The amount of protein you would need to get as bulky as your thinking would be a huge amount. I wouldnt worry too much there. they want you to gain muscle because muscle helps metobalize fat for fuel well before it hits the liver anyhow. so more muscle the more fat your body can absorbe and reuse. on the flip side if you use light weights but alot or reps on your workout you will tone what you have and its almost a light cardio without the risk of losing your muscle tone as well.....or at least that was the general thinking back when i was in school.....

Don't worry about bulking up, there are so many reasons to stay toned, I asked my trainer the same thing (when I use to go to the gym  ) you'd have to use some serious weight, like the guys that hang out by the mirrors with the free weights.

It'll be worth it to do 3 days of weight training.

Today was a good day. Woke up at 6, went to gym around 645, got home around 815, ate a bowl of special K with almonds, then went to school for the last day of classes, came home ate a can of tuna no mayo or bread, took a nap, woke up around 450, ate dinner around 6 wholegrain brown orzo/rice, and a shrimp/portobello salad i made fresh. Studied then went back to gym around 930 and did boke for 15 min and elliptical/treadmill for 15 min. 7 glasses of water today and didnt eat past 630 ....going to bed soon to wake up for another early monring gym session. spinning class starts wednesday...im nervous...never done it before..

Welcome

Hi Sarah,

I just wanted to reiterate what Jelly said. Muscle does add weight, so if I were you I would not concentrate on that number so much. You will notice as you tone up that you are smaller and leaner, but may not lose the whole of your goal weight. If you don't want to get really muscular, just keep the weights light, but do lots of reps.

It sounds like you had a pretty good day. Are you sure about not eating after 6:30? I know you shouldn't eat a lot late, but I was always told eating a small ammount helped keep your metabolism going.

hmm....i dont know, i thought you werent supposed to eat after like 6.....does anyone know for sure?? I could use some advice here.....thanks!

So good so far today....didnt quite make it to the gym this morning but I am going to go around 7. Breakfast had some coffee ( i know that doesnt count but i had a final and its all I had time for)...lunch had some portobello muschroom, shrimp and brown rice leftovers from last night...about 3/4 of a cup. Snack had a whole red pepper cut up with some oil and vinegar, and a peice of pumpernickel/rye marlbe bread with fat free cant believe its not butter...Is that stuff good for you...i mean there nothing in it really, but its so good, it seems like its too good to be true.... I am supposed to eat dinner around 5 but I got my new teeth whitening trays from the drntist and really wanted to use them so i might eat dinner little late :( Oh well..... does anyone know about the not eating after 6 thing?? is it good or no.....

Dinner was whole weat wrap with turkey lettuce mustard onions and vinegar, dessert was a 100 cal pack of cinn crackers. i cant believe i ate dinner so late...ugh

There is a huge difference of opinion on that topic. Somewhere there is a thread about weight loss myths that talks about it. From what I understand, you shouldn't eat a large meal or anything with lots of calories or fat. But eating something small like an apple or whatever should be fine.

everything i've read says you should stop eating 2 hours before bedtime, for no other reason that it interferes with you getting a good nights sleep... But if you're hungry - that will also interfere with sleep... and you need sleep to maintain a healthy weight...

Are you keeping a food diary of everything you are eating - like at fitday.com or one ofthe other many sites... cause it honestly doesnt look like you are getting enough calories... This shouldn't be a quick fix for you it should be a way of life...

You're doing great so far... you're motivation is terrific...

Two hours before bed time makes sense to me, but 6:00 would be more than 2 hours. I hope I'm not coming off as a knowitall--I really don't know myself, but remember from when I tried the Zone I was eating about 9:00 and no it was never anything too big

I think Im eating enough....I mean yesterday I had bowl of cereal....then can of tuna for lunch...half a fat free yogurt for snack....portobello/shrimp.brown rice 2 cups for dinner. Today I had cup of coffee for breakfast...1 cup leftover brown rice/shrimp/portobello salad..... one whole red pepper wth vinegar and oil/slice of pumpernickel bread for snack.....then dinner was whole wheat wrap with turkey lettuce onion mustard, and 100 ca pack of cinn cookie for dessert.

Yeah i talked to my friend who is a nutrition major she said just not to eat carbs after 6ish but eating is fine if im hungry as long as its not alot

thank for the help and support!

So woke up at 545 today....did one hour spinning class+ weight training for arms, and about 200 crunches. Bowl of Special K for breakfast not milk ( I hate milkkk) .....yogurt for a snack around 10 30 ish....then tuna sandwich or tukey burger on whole wheat bun (cant decide) around 1230-1.....good day so far...ive decided not to weight myself every week but to do it every 2 weeks because i know myself and I get dissapointed easily. And hopefully I will have lost 3 pounds by next Friday....;)
