New member joined to assist with getting in shape for possible law enforcement career

Hello everyone. Came across this site yesterday and have loved it since. Joined today (night) to gain more insight on how I can achieve a few goals.

My main purpose for joining is to help with my challenge of obtaining a career in law enforcement in SoCal.

I'm currently waiting for my Sheriff's background investigator to contact me regarding my background packet. In the meantime, I've been running, well, more jogging than anything, about 3-5 times a week for the past month. I'm also doing push-ups, sit-ups and squats.

I'm 31 y/o, 6'1", 215 lbs (would like to get down to ~190-200).

I started jogging around Thanksgiving and could only do about half a mile. Just a few days ago, I went up to 4 miles. I try to add a half mile every week. I usually run around my neighborhood and in a track once in a while. Keep in mind I stop every so often to catch my breath. Just earlier to day I was able to run 1.5 miles non-stop. My best so far. I use Runtastic Pro app to keep track of my runs.

I also do push-ups, sit-ups and squats using apps as well (name + Pro). I'm trying to follow the schedule set by each app. I'm not as consistent as I should be, though. My upper body is extremely weak, so I am forced to do push-ups on my knees. I'm up to 16 push-ups/session. Sit-ups and squats don't seem to be an issue at the moment.

My goals are to lose 15-25 pounds, run 1.5 miles in under 13 minutes and complete at least 24 regular push-ups within 1 minute. I was able to run 1.5 miles non-stop today in 14:07 minutes. I also only managed 12 regular push-ups in 1 minute.

I have at least a month to improve on these numbers.

I look forward to reading many threads and hopefully gaining much needed knowledge to help me achieve these goals.
