New- joined last night

Hello- I joined last night -but it took me awhile to figure the posting thing out. I want to lose 50lbs by May 2009. MY game plan is portion control- wise choices, and exercise- I currently do water aerobics 3 times a week- This is point of contention among my non- exercising friends and family they say "you can't lose a lot of weight doing water aerobics". Anyone have any success stories? I chose to start with the water as I have had problems with knee pain in the past and do not want to damage anything. I also tried a Pilates class last friday.... this was embarrassing as my gut gets in the way. I may be able to do Pilates one day a week. I would love to add a cycling class but.. my work schedule dictates when I can go to the gym. I am limited to what is available at that time.

Ive done water aerobics, and it was definitely a great form of exercise. Anything that is going to get your heart rate up and get you moving is a good thing. As you lose weight, you will be able to add to and or change your exercise routine. Your non exercising friends and family are not being supportive. I was thinking of taking pilates class even though i was worried about my belly getting in the way too. Just try to focus on the fact that you are trying to get healthy, not on what you look like doing it. If I only thought about how i look when i exercise, i would be in serious trouble..lol. You are doing great, keep it up!!!!!

hey.. welcome to the forum.. your goal is very much attainable, and the fact that u have already lost 5 pounds shows that you have the will power :) :)..

with three water aerobic classes and one pilate class every week, i think u are doing a great job in terms of exercising..may be as time goes on and u loose more weight u can add more exercises on the routine.. :)

looking forward to seeing ur progress..

Hello and welcome.
I agree you can lose the weight by May of 09. It is great that you are giving yourself plenty of time.

As far as the water exercises I say any movement is great! It is a very good start and you will gain confidence to go into other areas of exercising. We are here to give you all the support you need.
Good Luck

I have problems with eating when stressed and upset.
Seems like a time to make changes. I have a good friend I used to spend a lot time with... as friends .....but he just starting dating again. So until he decides this one is not good enough for him..or she figures out he has too many issues. I have to be extra diligent.
