Hello everyone. I just registered, and have been reading a few of the posts here. Seems like a good place with some good, balanced information (unlike a lot of online sites).

I figure I'll throw out a bit about me and maybe feel like jumping in at some point.

About 2 years ago I decided to get serious about losing weight and getting in shape. Over the course of a little over a year, I lost about 75 lbs, and then I sort of stalled out. A bunch of things contributed to the stall - personal life, business life, work, travel, holidays, stress ... you name it. I'm thrilled that I've been able to maintain my loss, but I really would like to lose 30-40 more lbs to be at my goal.

I don't follow a diet plan; instead over the last several years I've taken a good look at what I eat and how I eat and made some significant changes. I eat more whole foods, I try to eat more local foods, and I try to avoid packaged and processed foods as much as possible. I keep a much better eye on my portion sizes as well. It's amazing how much a serving of meat or pasta *really* is! :)

I exercise 3-4 times a week, a combination of strength training and HIIT cardio (I was working through the New Rules of Lifting fat burn program, but travel messed me up and I haven't started it over yet). I also have a very personal goal of wanting to be able to run in a 5k this fall, so I've been integrating more running (bleargh) into my workouts.

I just need to get out of the rut I've been in and ramp things up a little to knock out those last 30 or so lbs. I would REALLY like to have met my goal by the holidays this year and I think I can do it if I stay focused.

Or maybe I just need a drill sargeant to yell at me a lot! :cuss:

Anyway, that's my story. I hope to say "hi" to more of you on the rest of the boards!

Hi.

Why are you waiting until the fall to run your 5K??!! There are plenty of runs where ever you are. Why not start out walking one and then slowly build up to running the whole time. This is a huge confidence builder and a great social activity.

Think about it.

I'm new here too!

Well I'm not necessarily waiting for the fall ... it's that the 5k that I want to run is in the fall. I'm hoping to run in others, but there's a really important personal reason that this one will be my first one; it's to support a really special person in my life who has a particularly ugly form of cancer. I hope to run it WITH him in the fall ... :)

Thanks for the welcome!
