Hi all, I decided to join a forum because I figure that anything that helps with dieting and exercise is a good thing. When my now husband and I started dating, we also gained weight together. Now I've realized that I am far off from where I want to be and where I'm comfortable at. I was a size 3 to 5 in highschool and that is where I'm comfortable. I'm a size 9 to 11 right now and not happy. I see wives all around me that got married and let themselves go and I dont ever want to be that way.

I need to get a full body pic up soon. I tend to gain weight in my hips and thighs. Any support will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

9/14/2008 - Monday...

So my biggest problem with dieting so far has been while I'm at work. I tend to want to snack while I sit at my desk, but I have been strict for one week now and haven't splurged at all. I drink coffee at my desk which curbs my hunger a lot. I'm not even hungry at work, I'll just feel like snacking.

It's a lot easier since I switched jobs in mid-June. At my previous job, I had absolutely nothing to do so when I got bored I would snack. But now I have a ton of work to do everyday and I feel needed here at work, so I think that is what has made it easier.

I had a great idea last night to start walking to work because since my husband and I moved, we are only 2.5 miles from his school and my work. But I didn't get up in time this morning and so we drove. I had one serving of Cinnamon toast crunch cereal with half a cup of skim milk which totaled 170 calories.

I had one cup of coffee with a creamer for 30 calories.

And I had a 100-calorie pack of Cheez-Its at about 11 am.

My daily goal is to consume 1200 calories.

Any comments are always welcome! Thanks!

Hello!

I think its great you and your husband are doing this together, it will make things smoother because you have someone to turn to.

I have a quick question, what made you base your 1200 calories off of? Did you calculate your BMR and then reduce the number for loss or just picked a number out of the blue?

You might check out the sticky threads in both nutrition and exercies for tips on how to get started. And remember you're making a lifestyle change so you don't want to make things so difficult to stick to that you quit... small changes go a long way!

Cheers,
Miss D

1200

I arrived at 1200 calories because that is the amount of calories I lose weight at. 1-2 pounds per week. Everyone has a different metabolic rate according to things I have read so I'm not big on those generic BMR calculators. I have just been noticing what works for me and I keep doing it! :coolgleamA:

I feel full after meals and I don't get dizzy or weak like I would if I were not eating enough.

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely check out the nutrition and exercise threads!

I was also writing down everything I eat, but now I figure I can just put it in the diary here. I had a salami sandwich on whole wheat bread with light mayo and a slice of light Kraft cheese. I also had a 100 calorie pack of Lorna Doone shortbread cookies.

I drink hot tea throughout the day which has helped me feel full. For dinner I had a Marie Callendars meal.

I read that diet soda isnt good for you, fake sugar period isn't good for you. But I like the carbonation... :smilielol5:

It's good to hear you say that about wives. My wife has let herself go and to be honest it bothers me. I'm trying to turn things around for myself to get her attention.

You're welcome. You might check out Fitday, its a free online calorie counter, helps keep track of numbers without having to do all the adding yourself. I too write things down in several places, I find it keeps me more accountable.

From what I understand 1200 is the lowest amount of calories you should take in, but you're doing the right thing by listening to your body and it will let you know if something is not right.

You are on the right track! Consistency is key!! Keep with it and results are sure to follow! :)

Well I think you are going about it the right way. Maybe she'll see you losing weight and getting fit and realize that she should do the same. That's a much healthier solution than some others.

I have grown up around the wives in my family and they all let themselves go when it came to health and weight. I don't want to be that way. My husband is so great and he deserves better. He is never discouraging or insulting, only helpful and encouraging words. And it worked for me and i'm sure similar things will work for your wife. :grouphug:

So today was a lot easier and I think each day after gets easier. I had cereal for breakfast, one cup of coffee, subway 6 inch turkey with light mayo and a bag of baked lays for lunch. Had a candy bar for a snack and then split a slice of pizza with my husband for dinner.

We are also trying not to eat after 7 pm and I think that is helping but it's too soon to tell really.

So what does everyone elses daily diet consist of? any trends?

Hi there, and welcome to the forum! (both of you!)

One thing that helped me was cutting out most of the pre-packaged crap. Even the 'light & healthy' ones are stealth bombs for unnecessary calories, TONS of sodium, useless carbs, sugar, additives that cannot be pronounced by the average person... that type of thing.

I've had to learn that its not the carbs themselves that are bad... its the ones you choose to put in your body. Carbs in things made from whole grains are a lot better for you than carbs in things made from enriched white flour.

So now I eat a lot of lean proteins, fresh veggies, & whole grains. I am an admitted dairy fiend, so I do drink milk, eat cottage cheese, string cheese (gawd I love cheese! :smilielol5:), yogurt, etc. Now I just try to keep it under control and not eat too much of it.

Helps to get used to reading the labels on EVERYTHING to get an idea of how many calories per serving, how much a serving is, fat, carbs, sugars, fiber, etc. I'm not saying don't eat the things you guys enjoy (like pizza, oh how I understand that one!), just maybe view it as an occasional treat rather than a dietary staple. I'll still attack the guacomole and chips occasionally... only keep an eye on how many chips I have.

Lots of good stuff in the Nutrition section here, too!

Well, if nothing else, Mr. and Mrs. Sickles will add some entertainment value to this forum...

Glad you are both here. It has been interesting to say the least reading some of the posts. I think you'll get along just fine...

Good luck on the shared journey.

Welcome...

Hi there, it looks like you're on the right track. But I agree with well, I forgot who said it LOL but yeah, try to stay away from pre-packaged stuff, it is really bad for you. I have been doing pretty good so far (lost 21 lbs) by eating fresh veggies and fruits, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and lean meats. I used to eat alot of packaged foods and it's just not possible to lose weight with them. You could enjoy home-cooked foods alot more with half the calories and sugars and bad stuff... Just a suggestion. I wish you and your hubby the best of luck. Awwww you guys are too cute! :seeya:

Thanks Cabbie! We both have a very dry sarcastic sense of humor, so I hope that comes across ok... :)
