Good Morning all! I was online looking for some weightloss tips and came across this forum and decided to join! I am currently working toward shedding some pounds that i pasted on since HS and getting my butt in shape! I have been attending a local gym for about 2 years now... i think i may have actually gone more times last week then the whole time ive had the membership!

I am determined this time to keep working out and just working off the calories! i get very impatient and dont see an immediate change in how i look and end up quitting... thats my issue!

cant wait to hear all the good advice and what not for you all!

Hi Marie! I'm new here too. What kinds of things are you doing at the gym?

Right now here is my typical routine
30 minutes cardio- eliptical machine of some sort
30 minutes- upper/lower body lifting
15 minutes abdominal ( crunches, situps, sidebends)

I weight 151 as of this morning. A healthy weight for me is 125.....

any suggestions!?

howdy I'm new also...

Quick bit of advice from a personal trainer and nutritionist (yes me ;-) )

Weight training burns more calories than cardio vascular training...

For up to 24 hours after weight training your body will be still burning calories as you muscles start a feeding frenzy to re-build and regrow... No you will not get big muscles... Do full body compound movements... dont be shy ask your gym instructor what these exercises are

best of luck, dont give up...

geez.... im so confused. I know that weight lifting burns alot of calories, but i was under the impression that cardio was what really helped melt alot of the fat away and weight lifting is what will tone that muscle and give definition etc.

so many theories man!

What you said is the way I've understand it too and I don't think Steve was directing that at you....he was talking to footbag man. Anyway I struggle with the same problem at you, no results or not enough and then when I hit a wall I quit. Here's to us both having success this time :) Welcome to the forum~Lisa

Oh and as your making your way around the forum check out the stickies, there's TONS of info. Alot of people also use fitday, which I just started as well to do tracking and I'm liking it.

Also I go to the "before & after thread" and get majorly inspired. And if you haven't seen it yet there's a journal thread thats great for keeping track and getting support and tips from others in the forum as you go, and well just generally having a rant on occassion :D

Thank you so much! i am very excited this time around! I actually look forward to my work out! I actually took all my measurements last wednesday and logged them. I want to keep track of how things are going not only pounds wise, but inches too! I am going to need to start an online journal i think... keep you updated on my success....

Thank you and best of luck!!!:waving:
