New here...

Happy and Healthy New Year wishes to everyone! I'm hoping to find the motivation here to start the new year off healthier and fitter not only for myself but for my family as well. I'm a young busy mom to two busy kids (15 & 12) I also have an 1.5 hr-plus daily commute to DC.

Since the winter weather has started my fitness and activity levels have plummeted. I have little energy and have put on 10 lbs. My size 6s are unwearable and my 8s are bearly fitting.

I'm hoping to get my energy level back up, by eating better and incorporating exercise daily. But I need motivation and new ideas on how to tone up and get stronger and help my kids to do the same.

My 15 year old is pretty healthy, she swims and works out, eats healthy. My 12 year old needs motivation but in a non-critical way. So parents of tweens/teens that have some ideas please let me know where to go.

hey welcome!

you may want to start a diary and visit the moms section.

i aint a mom yet so can't help you on that one. sori.

good luck.

;-)

Thanks a-n-g-e-l, I used to use this journal on another website...I like that I can add in what I eat and any activity I do and it calculates my progress...so I've attached a link to it in my signature...But having a diary is a great way to be accountable and motivated...also I noticed that when I journal what I'm eating I tend to eat better and healthier. As for my 12 year old he just asked me to sign him up for swim prep lessons, he'd like to try out for a swim team this summer. By they way he's an active kid, he plays basketball, but i need to find ways to get him to eat more fruit and veggies and less bad carbs...my husband is not really cooperating with this, he buys bad stuff and brings it home...ice cream, donuts, cakes, cookies...i've let it slide since the holidays. He's already promised that in 2008 he would refrain from buying it and bringing it home.

good to hear you are keeping on track and persuading your family lol ;) Well done!! :hurray:

good luck with 2008

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Hi, welcome to the boards, and Happy New Year fellow Marylander!

I stumbled across this website back in August and its information and support have contributed to my weight loss to date. I'm sure you too will find it as a helpful tool in your journey.

Wow, 1.5 hour commute?! I can't imagine. I have cousins who live in the burbs of DC and have witnessed the traffic nightmare- I can't imagine that being part of a daily routine . . YUCK!

Good Luck !

Yarmia, thanks for the welcome...so far this has been a very informational forum...I've even signed up for a "challenge" that kicks off tomorrow and takes me thru to V-day.

However I will need EXTRA will-power from Jan 17-20. Why? 2 words:
DISNEY CRUISE I've never been on a cruise before. I've heard about how much food is available just about 24/7. fortunately, there's a gym onboard :)

As for my long commute, fortunately there is at least one saving grace and that is the MARC commuter train. I get to read, sleep, plan, daydream, unwind, chat, etc. vs. being stuck behind the wheel of my car tensed up and nerve-wracked, not to mention the savings on gas and wear and tear on my car. So it's not AS bad. Plus, I do love my job and who I work for. :)

I've never been on a cruise before, but I hear they can be a dieters nightmare. I just heard a reference from teh Biggest Loser that trainer Bob said: "Step away from the buffet".

I've signed up for the challenge too (the biggest loser one). Maybe we will be team mates!

I just watched that episode last night :) the Dad/Daughter team that was sent home...the dad went on a sales/cruise trip and I heard him say he kept hearing Bob say that to him. I've got to remember that in a few weeks.

I haven't signed up for the biggest loser challenge...apparently its only open to those with like a LOT of posts...unfortunately since i'm so new here I don't have enough posts.

what part of maryland are you in? if we're close enough maybe we can schedule a workout one morning? I'm in Harford Co. but close enough to Balt Co.
Andrea

I'm in Carroll County. I have been traveling thru Harford county to see my Mom who lives in Cecil County. (My Dad passed away just over a month ago, and I'm seeing her alot more to help out but the trip stinx . . about 1 hr 15 min one way).

The biggest loser challenge has room for 2 more I think, regardless of posts so maybe if you hurry . . . .
