New Here

Hi, I'm new here. I realized a couple of months ago that this past winter was not kind to me....hahaha.

I'm relatively fit, walk a lot and bike every so often, however I recently became aware that my love handles are really out of control, and make me look much bigger than I am.

Funny how these things creep up on you all of a sudden!

They are pretty bad, in my opinion, so for the past two weeks I have been biking every morning, alternating between 45 minutes and two hours each day.

I have also cut out most simple carbs, and am making an honest effort to eat lots and lots of raw veggies and more protein.

I have not been sleeping a lot at all since late spring, I wonder if this can affect ones metabolism?

Any hints on the bests, most fit oriented way to loose love handles would be appreciated. I would like to firm up mostly, I'm 5'3 and 145 lbs

Sleep deprivation definately affects weight loss and metabolism. What is the cause of your lack of sleep? Stress is usually the culprit, and unfortunately, stress also affects weight loss.
I would say that the place to start would be figuring out how to get a good night's sleep!

As for the love handles, my friend who has amazing abs says crunch away, baby! Regular crunches, lying on your side crunches, the ones where you cross over diagonally, etc. She also says core workouts, like yoga, pilates, etc. will strengthen those muscles.

Thanks!

Yes, stress is certainly a factor. I'm working on that, and the sleep.
I never realized till recently how sleep and metabolism may be connected.....

I will try getting that yoga mat out in the morning to combine with the cardio.

If nothing else, yoga usually will help your stress level. But I have a feeling it will also help your love handles.
