New Here - Introducing Myself!

Just signing on for the first time today and wanted to say hello to everyone. I am a 35 year old SAHM with two children, ages 7 and 3. I have tried everything to lose weight. Did pretty successfully on WW after birth of my first child, but gained it back and thensome with the second. I have all the right tools, know all the right ways, just have to stay motivated and do it. My doctor suggested Alli, since I seem to have been at this same plateau for several months now. I was on a pretty steady decline, but keep getting stuck between 165 and 170. I am pushing myself harder now to get past this hurdle. I joined the YMCA last week and am working with a personal trainer. Hopefully that will be a good nudge to get me going. I look forward to making new friends and hearing from some of you in the same boat!

welcome to the site - do some reading around the forums -- especially the stickied threads you will definitely find some tools to help you get off that plateau - I do beleive that drugs aren't the answer...

Hi Catk!
We just joined the YMCA recently as well. A personal trainer is great and will help you a lot I think. Have you tried any of the classes yet? I did the kickboxing yesterday and it was so much fun!

Regarding Alli I think you may want to do some research first. I tried it for a week when it first came out and while it is great because it makes you aware of everything you are eating if you are not eating much fat it doesn't do much. If you are eating fatty foods on the other hand you get "treatment" effects (side effects) which I heard could be really nasty. So I would seriously research it first because in my opinion just eating right will save you money spent on the pills and if you take the pills you will have to eat right anyways ykwim?

Goodluck with the weight loss!

Hey CatK,

Welcome to the forums. Have you started a journal/diary yet? When I started here, everyone recommended that I use FitDay.com which is an online tool for keeping track of your caloric intake. It works like a charm! :D

As for Alli, I agree with the others.
1. I don't believe drugs are the way. Our bodies are naturally set up to regulate weight. Its only our modern diets and inactivity that get in the way (unless there is a serious medical condition).
2. Alli has a lot of side-effects for people who continue to eat poor diets high in fats. It might just be best if you modify your diet (unless you don't need to) and save your money.

There's lots of info all over the forums and everyone here is very helpful.
:D

Hi CatK

Well girlfriend,

It sounds like we are almost in the same boat. Today is my day one...and I'm just starting to get on the road to being healthy.

Hopefully we can keep in touch and do it together.

Sharing progress reports, can't do anything but help!!

Take care and have a great day.

SS

Thanks for the welcome

I am so glad to see I had some responses. I have done lots of weight loss programs in the past, and I really do know the right way to do this. Staying motivated and working out are my two greatest obstacles. I get really gungho and decide I'm going to do it this time, and then I get stuck and give up again. I am determined this time that I will get past this plateau. I am hopeful that working out will help me reach my goals. Thanks for the words of encouragement!

I shared your motivation/exercise problems. Then one day I decided enough was enough. I haven't had any trouble staying motivated or exercising, and it's been 8 months now. I think that my previous problems were that I wanted to eat what I wanted and be lazy rather than be thin. Now I'd rather be thin--and I refuse to let anything get in my way..lol If you are in a similar frame of mind, you'll do great. But if you're not fully committed, then you will probably have a rough time. I wish you all the best!!:)

Thanks for the encouragement. I am determined this time, even though I really truly just hate to workout. I've never been athletic and sports don't interest me at all. I have started swimming a lot, which has helped tremendously, and my trainer is starting me on a regimin today. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I am hopeful that my trainer will hold me accountable too and help me stay on track.
