If you like flavor you could try drinking something like Propel Zero Nutrient water. Drink only Berry and Black Cherry. (These are the two I drink, they have 0 calories. Grape has 25 calories!!). This will help you cut the soda!

Hey cookie monster, welcome to the forum!

I think that the above suggestion is great advice. Ultimately, you want to get away from those drinks altogether, but finding low calorie substitutes is a good idea. Another suggestion would be to gradually cut back on the amount of those drinks that you have in a day or week. How many cokes and mochas do you currently have each day? Even just cutting back one or two of these drinks per day can make a big difference overall.

Good luck :)

Thank you for your advice. Currently i have 1 to 2 mochas and a large amount of coke, I dont even know how much i drink... I have asked my family to help me cut the 2 starting tomorrow. I have quit before but didnt see alot of improvement so i quit but this time i researched it and am learning not to expect fast results... Thank you and i appreciate any feed back

Don't just quit drinking that stuff. That won't really do as much good as replacing it with the new propel zero products. You can buy 12-packs at wal-mart for like ~$6. It's got Vitamin B6 as well as other vitamins. It's really good for you, tastes better than regular water (very good for weening based on taste!) and the water helps you digest, promotes a healthier life style, and ultimately it will help you lose weight. Your body actually loses weight quicker if you over-saturate it with water. If you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated. I can slam down 4 or 5 17 OZ bottles a day and still be thirsty at the end of the day.

I agree with maybe weaning off the sugary drinks with low-cal options for the short term only. In the long term, it's healthier to drink mostly water, with the occasional juice, coffee, tea etc. And I wouldn't fall for the benefits of added vitamins in these so-called health drinks. Supplementing single vitamins is not recommended without a physician's or dietician's advice.... So drinking something with added Vitamin B6 or any other vitamins/minerals is not necessarily healthy for you.

WithYouForYou, if you're drinking 68-85oz per day and you're still thirsty, then either this is not enough water for you, or there is something else going on to make you this thirsty.

Thank you for the advice. I will deffenently give it a shot... Does anyone know of good workouts that wont kill my back

Since you have arthritis and you've stated that you've also had surgery, I would recommend getting your doctor's consent before starting any exercise program.

It may be a good idea for you to see a physio first, then progress from there to a kinesiologist or personal trainer that can help you to set up an appropriate exercise program. The tough part about making recommendations online is that no one actually knows your capabilities/limitations and there is no way to know if you're doing the exercises with correct form. It's best to work one on one with a professional, even if it's only for a couple of sessions, to get instruction on proper technique, posture, and appropriate exercises to strengthen your back while reducing the risk of further injury.

I've been walking like 4 miles a day, and I'm now down to 343.8. I've been thirsty because I've just been walking so much. My doctor told me I should be drinking at least a gallon every day. That's about what that is, but I think more than anything, it's me walking so dang much.

I wasn't trying to imply that it was entirely healthy. I just meant in contrast to other drinks she could wean off of it with, the vitamin water is probably going to be one of his best choices. The water personally makes feel ridiculously energetic. I guess it all boils down to preference!

I just hope our tips benefit her!

PS: I really agree with what was said above. You should at least get your doctor's advice/consent before you attempt exercising. If you do damage now it could hurt you for the rest of your life.

I see that you were talking more about weaning off the cola, etc.... I just wanted to clarify that it should be seen as a temporary thing, and that the ultimate goal would be to drink more water and less of anything else. I don't know the contents of the propel drinks, but it is likely better than drinking lots of cola in a day. Lots of people will read the post, so I just want to make sure that any advice given is clear :)

Right! Sorry, I sometimes get confused by myself. From what I can tell the Propel Zero is mostly Water, Ascorbic Acid, and vitamins. I think it has flavor preservatives...but that's about it. I'd have to look! I'm not sure what's in regular propel drinks. I believe those do have a lot of sugar. I chose propel zero because it has zero calories. Propel Zero is basically water, whereas regular propel is a sports drink if I remember correctly. (It all comes down to the individual. If you wish to use propel zero in the long run, you should ask your doctor about it to see what he/she says. I only drink it because regular water makes me gag.)

I saw that new product called Mio (I think?). I haven't looked at the nutritional facts on it or tried it, but I heard it has zero calories as well. (You're meant to pour it into water)

I agree with the people who have recommended substituting low calorie (or, better yet, zero calorie) drinks for the soda and mocha. Personally, I would recommend shopping around at the grocery store, or even at places like Wal-Mart and Target, and looking for flavored carbonated water. I keep a bunch of bottles at my house at all times. They are zero calories and contain nothing but water, artificial sweeteners, flavoring and carbonation. And, in all honesty, if you were to take a blind taste test of the flavored carbonated waters and sodas - you wouldn't be able to tell much of a difference between the carbonated waters and major brands of soda.

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with everything.
