Hey, im a 31 almost 32 yo male- 5'6" 157 pounds. In December of 2009 my fiancee and partner of 15 years left me. I started to lose weight immediately after she left because I basically lost my drive to eat and starved myself. At the time she left I was almost 200 lbs and drinking about a 12pk of beer every day and eating junk food. I quit drinking for 4 months and started eating nothing but healthy foods high in fiber and nutrients and the weight came off fast. But I was still not eating enough, and at times I wouldn't eat more than a few bites of food a day. After 5 months I had dropped to 137 lbs. When I finally started eating regularly I was able to maintain a body weight of 141-143 for about 7-8 months, but I had started drinking again, but pretty moderately. I ended up meeting someone new and have been dating her for almost a year now. Since meeting her I've put on about 14 more pounds and I'm at about 157. When I was at 141 I liked the way I looked and was happy with my weight. Now that I'm 157 my chest and core are a little flabby and not as tight.

Today my life is much better and I don't drink that often, but I'm not as happy with my body as I was when I was 141 lbs. My girlfriend is not as disciplined about eating right as I would like and she encourages me to indulge in things like pizza and icecream. When we first met I was happy to take her out to eat and get treats because I excited to meet someone new and have fun, but now the weight is coming back. I'm trying to stick to my diet but it's hard to stay on track when she isn't on the same diet as I am.

I eat about 5 times a day. When I wake up I usually have: high fiber cereal with skim milk or oatmeal, low fat yogurt, and a piece of fruit. before lunch I'll eat something like a hard boiled egg, or jerkey. Luch is usually tuna or turkey on whole grain bread with fruit and carrots or plain popcorn. I might snack on something like baby carrots or fruit if I'm hungry before dinner. Dinner is usually seasoned chicked breats with brown rice and veggies, or whole grain pasta with a side of veggies.

How do I stay on my diet when I'm with someone who wants to eat out, or order pizza all the time? Also, she is pre diabetic and should be eating healthier. She does eat pretty health much of the time, but she lacks the discipline to stay the course. I try very hard to stick to my diet and encourage to take better care of herself and I wish she would be more supportive of mine.

Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Afocus on portion size, if she won't let you ignore the food altogether. My g/f and I, when we have desert, keep it to a bare minimum. In the beginning, it was like "this is rediculous", but now it's perfect. Most of the craving is simply for the taste. After the first few bites, the taste is satisfied and I'm happy having a very small portion.

You may also want to try taking your g/f to an information session about what can happen to you if you become diabetic. Hopefully a little reality check can help.
