New here, general questions

Hello all. New to the site, had some general q's to ask. Im 21, about 5'10, and weigh about 135 - 140 pounds. Ive always been a very slim kid, and even during highschool i when i was on the gymnastics team and worked out 3 hours a day, for 3 seasons my physical appearance never changed. Now im a junior in college havent worked out in some time, and the college lifestyle is starting to show. Getting a little gut going and I generally feel tired all the time. I guess ive never properly dieted or worked out, so im curious on how to go about it. Im not looking for any unreachable goals, id just like to be in better shape, attain some definition, and most of all if at all possible try to gain some mass. Any help is much appreciated, thank you.

I'd say your first step is diet. Clean out the junk, especially soda pop. Increase lean protein intake, and eliminate saturated and trans-fats from your diet.

Without the proper fuel, the body cannot increase muscle mass. Aim for 1g of protein per pound of bodyweight, and 2-2.5g of carbs per pound of bodyweight.
These are just general numbers. Hardgainers should aim for 1.5g and 3g for protein/carbs.

Surprisangly enough, i havent drank pop/soda in quite some time, i mainly stick with powerade and or juices. (do have some healthy traits :D ) Now as far as calculating what i eat thats pretty difficult. I can eat one main meal a day and wont be hungry for the rest of the day or can go the rest of the day without eating. Or there are days when ill eat non-stop. so trying to pinpoint a schedule to stick to will be tricky.

I have the same issue with my diet - some days i only eat 1 meal and others I eat non-stop - this is incredably bad for us though. It plays tricks with our bodies and metabolism. It's become very clear to me that I need to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner no matter what!

It's not a matter of being hungry, it's a matter of fueling your body and keeping a steady matabolism so that you don't gain extra fat cells.

I assure you this also contributes to your lack of energy also. Eat man! Eat!
